Debbie Ann Atlas

ROLLING FORK – Debbie Ann Atlas died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was 35.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Charlie Caesar officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 this evening at Mitchell L. Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Survivors include her mother, Atlean Atlas of Rolling Fork; four brothers, Sammy Davis of Gastonia, N.C., Kenneth Davis and Harvey Lee Davis, both of Rolling Fork, and Allen Widom of Cameta; five sisters, Theresa Myles, Betty Booker, Reshona Atlas and Robin Davis, all of Rolling Fork, and Shirley Frazier of Cary.

Alphonse Ray Brown

RAY LICK – Alphonse Ray Brown, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the Claiborne County Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 83.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1922, the third son of the late Rupert R. Brown and Lela Mae Scott Brown. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth Marie Case Brown; three brothers, Rupert Anthony Brown, Jimmie S. Brown and Douglas Brown; and one sister, Rosalie Baldwin.

He is survived by two brothers, E.J. “Zeke” Brown and wife, Jeanette, of Atlanta, and Alric V. Brown and wife, Pauline, of Vicksburg; five sisters, Pauline Jenkins of Vicksburg, Christine Walters and husband, Mac, of Lorman, Magdaline Barrouse of Kenner, La., Flora Ann Frazier and husband, John Donald, of Lorman, and Frances Smith and husband, John P., of Pearl; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives among whom was his favorite hunting and fishing buddy and cousin, Wilton Brown. He is also survived by his devoted nephew, James E. “Little Jimmie” Brown, who was his constant care giver during his illness.

As a young man he joined the C.C.C.’s and served part of his enlistment in Death Valley, California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three and a half years and participated in the campaign for the liberation of the Philippines. After his discharge from the military service, he worked for a short time in the Delta as a surveyor, but returned to Red Lick, the place of his birth, and worked at Southwest E.P.A. until he retired in 1984 after 35 years of service.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette with Monsignor Thaddeus Harkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fayette City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Visitation will also be from 5 until 7 tonight. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.

Pallbearers will be John Donald Frazier III, James “Jimmy” Frazier, Bert Brown, Mac Walters, James Wells, David Brown, Walter Brown and Burnie Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Fayette City Cemetery Association, Box 424, Fayette, MS or the charity of your choice.

A.C. Dulaney

Services for A.C. Dulaney were at 11 this morning at W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roosevelt Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Dulaney died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 61.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Dulaney and Lucille Smith Dulaney; and one brother, Roosevelt Smith.

Survivors include one son, Michael Dulaney of Jackson; two daughters, Pam Dulaney and Rene Dulaney, both of Utica; two brothers, M.C. Dulaney of Vicksburg and L.C. Dulaney of Jackson; three sisters, Ernestine Bracey of Edwards, and Ethelean Haywood and Annie Ruth Boyd, both of Chicago; and other relatives and friends.

Trulie Mae Peaches

Trulie Mae Peaches died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Promise Specialty at River Region West Campus. She was 88.

Mrs. Peaches was a longtime Bovina resident, where she was a member of New Hope M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peaches; her parents, Cora and Jake Ratliff; two sons, Charles Peaches and Jackie Peaches; and one daughter, Betty Jean Satterfield.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosie Lee Meeks and Mary Ellen Reed, both of Vicksburg, and Elois Price of Chicago; two sons, Marion Peaches of Vicksburg and Joe Willie Peaches of Sugar Grove, Ill.; a sister, Clois Johnson of Landover, Md.; one brother, Richard Otis of Vicksburg; 28 grandchildren, including three she reared: Stephanie Brooks and Gaynell Wilson, both of Vicksburg, and Denetra Jones of Jackson; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Mary Bolls and Pearl Smith of Vicksburg.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Hattie Wright Ross

Hattie Wright Ross died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 53.

Mrs. Ross was a homemaker. She was a member of Triumph M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wright and Everlena Hardy Wright; and three brothers, James Wright, Willie Wright and Henry Wright.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Earl Ross and Tommy Wright, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Jessica W. Johnson of Vicksburg; two brothers, Dave Wright and Joseph Wright, both of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Horace McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Joseph H. Wheatley

CLARKSDALE – Services for Joseph H. Wheatley were at noon on Aug. 29, 2005, at New Covenant M.B. Church in Clarksdale with the Rev. Marvin K. Myles officiating. Burial followed at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Lyon under the direction of Woolf Funeral Home in Clarksdale.

Mr. Wheatley died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 74.

He was a native of Vicksburg. He was a graduate of Alcorn State University and the University of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a former executive director of Mississippi Delta Council Farm Workers Inc. He was a parishioner at Damascus M.B. Church in Clarksdale.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wheatley of Clarksdale; one daughter, Valerie H. Wheatley of Pittsburgh; one son, Victor Hugo Wheatley of Las Vegas; two sisters, Romonia Buchannon and Johnnie Lee Connor, both of Los Angeles; one brother, Lomax Wheatley of New Orleans; one grandchild; and other relatives including LaMarcus Taylor of Jackson and Jameco K. Malone of Clarksdale.
