Catherine Cole Bufkin
HAZLEHURST – Catherine Cole Bufkin died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 86.
Mrs. Bufkin was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Vicksburg School of Nursing. She was employed with Vicksburg School of Nursing until her retirement. She was a member of Warren County Home Demonstration Clubs and Antioch Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ray Bufkin Sr.; her parents, Russell G. and Addie H. Cole; and three brothers, James R. Cole, Joseph Dean Cole and John Scott Cole.
Survivors include one son, Herbert Ray Bufkin Jr. of New Albany, N.Y., one sister, Isabel Cole McLeod of Vicksburg; one brother, Zane Grey Cole of Prescot, Ark.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 11 this morning at Antioch Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst.
Rita Michelle Callahan
Rita Michelle “Chelle” Callahan died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 28.
Ms. Callahan was a member of New Zion M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Scott Callahan Sr.; and two brothers, Jerome Turner Jr. and James Turner.
Survivors include three daughters, KeShawn Johnston, Kimberly Callahan and Karry Callahan, all of Vicksburg; her mother, Ruby Turner Callahan of Vicksburg; five brothers, Edward Earl Callahan, Scott Gary, Scott Callahan Jr., William Callahan and Joe Turner, all of Vicksburg; six sisters, Gloria Mitchell, Cora Turner, Brenda Carson Reed, Nicolee Carson, Stephanie Carson Hubbard and Kendra Carson Flowers, all of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Don Greer
Don Greer died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at South Central Hospital in Laurel. He was 63.
Born in Mobile, Ala., Mr. Greer was a longtime resident of Hattiesburg. He had lived in Moselle, Miss., for the past five years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Marine Corps League. He attended Wayside Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
Mr. Greer was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Brock; one sister, Shirley Parkes; and one brother, Charles Greer.
Survivors include his wife, Ancie Heggins Greer of Moselle; two sons, Donald Mitchell Greer II and wife, Angela, of Myrick and Lyman Quin Greer and wife, Kathy, of Purvis; two brothers, Larry Ray Greer and Wiley Greer, both of Jackson; three sisters, Jean Staton of Brandon, Linda Pierce of DeKalb and Mattie Denewith of Nadar, Fla.; and four grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home of Vicksburg with the Rev. E.L. Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Wayside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be active members of the Marine Corps League.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Joe Heggins, Tommy Berryhill, Charles Hearn, Kevin Pierce, Eugene Ferrell and George Houston Alexander.
Sammie Lee Hall Sr.
Services for Sammie Lee Hall Sr. will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Traveler Baptist Church with Pastor E.J. Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family hour from 6 until 7.
Mr. Hall died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 66.
Mr. Hall was born in Scott, Miss., to the late Robert and Louise Hall of Tallula, Miss. He was a member of King David No. 1 Baptist Church. He had worked as a machine operator with Operators Engineers and Continental Can Company. For the past three years he owned and operated Hall and Son Lawn Service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Hall of Vicksburg; two sons, Anthony Hall of Clinton and Sammie Lee Hall Jr. of Memphis; two daughters, Sharon Walton of Greenville and Tonya Perkins of Vicksburg; three brothers, A.D. Hall of Metcalf, Jimmy D. Hall of Belzoni and Daniel Hall of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Pinky Brown of Saginaw, Mich., and Rosie Cole of Scott; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including E.J. and Jean Crawford and Ronnie and Sylvia Lee, all of Vicksburg.
George P. Lane Jr.
JACKSON – George P. Lane Jr. died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in Jackson. He was 86.
Mr. Lane was born in Greenville. He attended Greenville High School and Louisiana State University. He was a resident of Vicksburg and employed at Mississippi River Commission. He retired as vice president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi. He was a member of Mississippi Senior Golf Association, Jackson Marketing and Lions Clubs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Myrtis Lane; and one brother, Edgar Lane.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lane of Jackson; two daughters, Diane Lane of Jackson and Shirley Myers of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Mildred Lusinger of Tennessee; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Richard Catholic Church. Burial followed at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson.

Trulie Mae Peaches
Services for Trulie Mae Peaches will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Peaches died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Promise Specialty at River Region West Campus. She was 88.
Mrs. Peaches was a longtime Bovina resident, where she was a member of New Hope M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peaches; her parents, Cora and Jake Ratliff; two sons, Charles Peaches and Jackie Peaches; and one daughter, Betty Jean Satterfield.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosie Lee Meeks and Mary Ellen Reed, both of Vicksburg, and Elois Price of Chicago; two sons, Marion Peaches of Vicksburg and Joe Willie Peaches of Sugar Grove, Ill.; a sister, Clois Johnson of Landover, Md.; one brother, Richard Otis of Vicksburg; 28 grandchildren, including three she reared: Stephanie Brooks and Gaynell Wilson, both of Vicksburg, and Denetra Jones of Jackson; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Mary Bolls and Pearl Smith of Vicksburg.
Becky Simrall
REDWOOD – Becky Simrall died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at her home in Redwood. She was 63.
Mrs. Simrall was born and reared in Vicksburg. She graduated from Cooper High School and Mississippi State College for Women. She lived in Starkville for 29 years and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 10 years.
She was preceded in death by a husband, Ernest Seago, and her parents, Calton and Linda Bell Bruce.
She is survived by her husband, Newell Simrall of Redwood; one son, John Seago of Vicksburg; four stepsons, Mark Simrall and Karsten Simrall, both of Redwood, Newell Simrall IV of Jackson and Daniel Ferguson of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Rea Leist of Redwood; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Holy Trinity with the Rev. Michael Nation officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville.
Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Emmitt Smitherman, Ernie George, John Jordan, Dr. Ray Orgler, Keith Winfield and Wayne Tubb.

Betty Mae Thompson
OAK GROVE – Betty Mae Thompson died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, La. She was 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Westley Thompson; her parents, James Edward Bass Sr. and Virginia Hale Bass; one son, Jimmy Dale Thompson; five brothers, Hayes Bass, Levi Bass, Johnny Bass, Jack Bass and Dub Bass; and one sister, Lucille Williams.
Survivors include four sons, J.W. Thompson of Picayune, Lee Roy Thompson of Mira Loma, Calif., David Ray Thompson of Little Rock, Ark., and Mike Thompson of Oak Grove; one daughter, Virginia Crawford of Hot Springs, Ark.; one brother, James Edward Bass Jr. of Oakland, Calif.; one sister, Margaret Barnes of Oak Grove; one grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Church of God with the Rev. Jim Elee officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Christopher Williams
EDWARDS – Christopher “Good Buddy” Williams died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at his home in Edwards. He was 43.
Mr. Williams attended Hinds A.H.S. and Utica Junior College. He was a member of United Missionary Church in Edwards. He worked for Cal-Maine Foods for 10 years and, for a number of years, was a truck driver for Head Turner.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Smith Williams, and his grandparents, C.D. and Dora B. Smith and Eddie and Augustus Williams.
He is survived by his wife, ReElla Turner Williams of Edwards; two daughters, Christal “Punkin” Williams and Christina “Pooh” Williams, both of Edwards; a son, Zavia “Man” Williams of Edwards; his father, Oneill Williams Sr. of Edwards; three sisters, Betty Williams Johns and Onetta Williams Samuel, both of Jackson, and Bonita Williams of Edwards; three brothers, Oneill Williams Jr. of California, Jerry Williams of Vicksburg and Derrick Williams of Jackson; and friends and other relatives, including Phylondria Williams.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Missionary Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah M.B. Church cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon Friday until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg.
Garfield Wright Sr.
Services for Garfield Wright Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.
Mr. Wright died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 89.
Mr. Wright retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army after serving in the South Pacific in World War II. He was a deacon at New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a past worshipful master of Sunshine Lodge No. 99.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Wright Sr. and Catherine Johnson; two sons, Stanley Wright and Arthur Wright; three brothers, Anthony Wright Jr., Allen Wright and Freddie Shells; three sisters, Doris Wright, Sammie Brown and Johnnie Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Wright of Vicksburg; two sons, Garfield Wright Jr. of Vicksburg and James Wright of Dallas; five daughters, Deloris Hicks of Aurora, Ill., Mary Jimmerson of Arlington, Texas, Margaret Singleton of Oak Park, Ill., Patricia McDougal of Landover, Md., and Betty Carter of Baton Rouge, La.; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
