An elderly Vicksburg woman died Saturday afternoon after a head-on collision on Wisconsin Avenue.

Warren County Coroner John Thomason identified the victim as Hazel Buchanan, 85, a resident of Heritage House off Wisconsin.

Sylvia Brown of Vicksburg was driving south on Wisconsin behind Wright when the wreck occurred.

She said Wright turned his El Camino into the path of a Ford Explorer driven by Angela Moore, 32, of Vicksburg.

“She tried to swerve to miss it, and they hit head on,” Brown said.

Moore, who was driving alone, and Wright and Buchanan were taken to River Region Medical Center, where Buchanan was pronounced dead, Thomason said.

The fatal wreck was the eighth in Warren County this year. Most recent was on Sept. 5 on Oak Ridge Road at the entrance to Openwood Plantation subdivision, where Robert Daniel “Bobby” Tompkins Jr., 19, 1542 Cannada Crossing Road in Edwards, died.
