Kathy Hyde Christman
Kathy Hyde Christman, 53, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at her residence. Visitation is 5-8 tonight at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Elliott Cemetery in Grenada.
Mrs. Christman was a longtime resident of Rankin County and had lived in Vicksburg for the past six years. She was co-owner/operator of Christman Truck and Trailer in Pearl with her late husband, Raburn Christman. She was a featured twirler at Clinton High School and the Mississippi Misses. Mrs. Christman was one of the first female drag race car drivers in Mississippi.
Mrs. Christman is survived by a son, Corp. Lewis Raburn “Bubba” Christman Jr. and wife Patti of Flowood; daughter, Karyn Barnett of Flora; mother, Dot Bell of Richland; brother, Reggie Hyde of Terry; sister, Deborah Hyde of Austin, Texas; two grandsons, Jacob Sims and Connor Gambill, both of Flora; and special friend, Bobby Height of Vicksburg.
Charles Gladwell Jr.
Charles Gladwell Jr. died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Gladwell was a native of Grand Gulf. He had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1953. He worked as a service station attendant for Rose Oil Co. for 13 years and as a commercial fisherman.
He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Katherine String Gladwell; two brothers, Edward Eugene Gladwell and Jimmy Gladwell Sr.; and one sister, Mary Dunlap.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy G. Gladwell of Vicksburg; three sons, Willie Gladwell Jr., Charles Edward Gladwell and David Gladwell, all of Vicksburg; one daughter, Stephanie Bell Gladwell of Vicksburg; three brothers, Willie Gladwell Sr. and Robert Gladwell, both of Vicksburg, and William Cade of Port Gibson; five sisters, Nell Bunch of Benoit and Jo Doupier, Betty Hunter, Shirley Stephens and Dorothy Melton, all of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; and other relatives, including Flosey Carroll of Port Gibson and Walter Cox of Redwood.
Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mary Alice Grubbs
FARMERVILLE, La. – Mary Alice “Tootsie” Grubbs died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Timberlake Health Care in Farmerville, La. She was 73.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Waller and Mary Waller Lowrey; and three sisters, Pauline Whitehurst, Geraldine Brown and Mattie Lee Waller.
Survivors include her husband, Bryant Grubbs of Farmerville; four daughters, Janice Schanks of Calhoun, La., Linda Powell of Oak Grove, Phyllis Mangum of Bernice, La., and Angela McDonald of Farmerville; one brother, Paul Joe Waller of Bevins, Texas; one sister, Bobbie Jean Sullivan of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Allen Akin officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest Cemetery in Forest.
Visitation will be until 9 this evening and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Chris Nolan, Dusty Nolan, Brad Harper, Brent Snells, Brandon Putman and Joey Snodgrass.
Helen January
Helen January died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 72.
Mrs. January was a member of Locust Grove M.B. Church. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, working in California and for Vicksburg Convalescent Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John S. and Mahalia Durman Williams; two sisters, Blanche W. Buckley and Melissa Lewis; and one brother, Alex Williams.
She is survived by two sons, John January of Vicksburg and Willie Augusta Ewell of California; two daughters, Gracie Brown of Compton, Calif., and Sherry Hodges of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Leslie Williams Sr. of Bryan, Texas; three sisters, Mable V. Evans and Mamie Diggs, both of Vicksburg, and Willie Bell Whitley of Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Katie Mae Phillips
ROLLING FORK – Katie Mae Phillips died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital. She was 55.
Mrs. Phillips lived in Rolling Fork.
She is survived by a son, Leroy Perkins Jr.; three brothers, James Phillips, Albert Phillips and Isiah Nicholas, all of Rolling Fork; three sisters, Florine Phillips of Anguilla, Dorothy Phillips of Vicksburg and Geraldine Price of St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla with the Rev. H.C. Haglen officiating. Burial will follow at Cynthia Diana Cemetery.
A wake service will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Belinda Ann Gray Sims
Belinda Ann Gray Sims died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at her home. She was 44.
Mrs. Sims was a former employee of Rainbow Casino. She was a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lessie Mae Gray; one brother, Adam Brown Jr.; and one sister, Sherry Marie Brown.
Survivors include Candice Gray of Vicksburg; her father, Adam Brown Sr. of Vicksburg; four brothers, Melvin Brown of Killeen, Texas, Perry Brown of Fayette, Tyrone Reed of Charlotte, N.C., and David Chambers of Vicksburg; one sister, Tamie Williams of Vicksburg; maternal grandmother, Clara Mae Starks of Fayette; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Rev. Frank Leroy Wills
VANCLEAVE – The Rev. Frank Leroy Wills died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Ocean Springs. He was 76.
A resident of Vancleave, Rev. Wills was former pastor of First Church of the Nazarene and Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Vicksburg. He was a native of Newcomerstown, Ohio, and had been a resident of the coast since 1986.
He was a retired pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. In addition to churches in Vicksburg, he had pastored in Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Florida and other areas in Mississippi. He also built churches, parsonages and schools for the Church of the Nazarene in six countries in South America. He had worked as a brick- and block-layer.
Rev. Wills was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Zera Mae Wills of Vancleave; three sons, Frank Eugene Wills and Roger Wills, both of Vancleave, and Rocky Wills of Robert, La.; four sisters; one brother; seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 5, 2005, at Jim Ramsey Cemetery No. 2 in Vancleave.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 8, 2005, at the Gulf Coast Family Church of the Nazarene on Big Ridge Road in Ocean Springs. A fellowship dinner will follow the service.
