Agnes M. Baylot

Agnes M. Baylot died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 100.

A native of Bootheville, La., Mrs. Baylot was reared in Buras, La., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1928. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Adele Clark.

She attended Tulane University for two years and taught school for two years in Buras. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the St. Aloysius and St. Francis Mothers clubs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Baylot Sr.; three brothers, Joe Clark, Douglas Clark and Achille Clark; and two sisters, Irene Ernest and Dorothy Shingle.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie Gandy of Hazlehurst; three sons, John Baylot Jr. and Robert A. Baylot, both of Vicksburg, and Charles J. Baylot of Atlanta; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Fisher Funeral Home with a wake service at 6:30.

Pallbearers will be Robert Baylot Jr., Jimmy Baylot, Johnny Baylot, Stephen Baylot, John Hesselberg and Paul Graham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Baylot, Paul Rocconi, Larry Rocconi, Toni Wooten and Billy Goodman.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church Building Fund, 713 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Helen January

Services for Helen January will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Locust Grove M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. January died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 72.

Mrs. January was a member of Locust Grove M.B. Church. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, working in California and for Vicksburg Convalescent Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John S. and Mahalia Durman Williams; two sisters, Blanche W. Buckley and Melissa Lewis; and one brother, Alex Williams.

She is survived by two sons, John January of Vicksburg and Willie Augusta Ewell of California; two daughters, Gracie Brown of Compton, Calif., and Sherry Hodges of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Leslie Williams Sr. of Bryan, Texas; three sisters, Mable V. Evans and Mamie Diggs, both of Vicksburg, and Willie Bell Whitley of Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Heather ReNee Skarina

Heather ReNee “Butterfly” Skarina died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in Ball, La. She was 22.

Ms. Skarina was a native of Florence and had lived in Vicksburg for the past three months.

Survivors include Leyona Skeen of Honolulu; one brother, Hunter Skeen of Florence; one sister, Haley Skeen of Florence; her grandparents, Ray and Carol Goldman, both of Florence; her great-grandparents, Louis and Ruth Griffin of St. Louis; her stepmother, Heidi Skeen of Florence; Marty Skeen of Florence; and other relatives and friends.

Services were at noon Wednesday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence.

Joseph Carroll Smith

BROOKHAVEN – Joseph Carroll Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident in Vicksburg. He was 44.

Mr. Smith was a member of J&J Construction Local No. 114 at International Paper Co. of Vicksburg. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Brookhaven.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis and Maude Smith and Joe and Gladyes Nix.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Goss Smith; a son, Joseph Garrett Smith of Brookhaven; a daughter, Elaina Jo Smith of Brookhaven; his parents, Roger and Loretta Nix Smith; one brother, Roger Dale Smith of Brookhaven; three sisters, Karen Smith Howell and Lori Smith Wright, both of Brookhaven, and Kathy Smith Whittington of Smithdale; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Prospect Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven.
