Linda G. Brown

LONG BEACH – Linda G. Brown died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, as a result of Hurricane Katrina. She was 59.

Ms. Brown was a graduate of Murrah High School in Jackson and Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus. She was employed as a manager of Sun Coast Apartments in Long Beach.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Kenneth Brown Sr.; and one brother, Kent Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristin Prax of Huntsville, Ala., and Amanda Wade of Tupelo; her mother, Jerry Brown of Tupelo; one sister, Pam Hollaway of Shannon; one brother, Pat Brown of Magee; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home Chapel in Tupelo with the Rev. Jimmy Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Alvin Jones

PORT GIBSON – Alvin Jones died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 48.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Katie Butler-Jones; and one brother, Ernest Jones Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jones of Port Gibson; four daughters, Lakeisha Wade, Tomekia Claiborne, LaKeda Wade and Tiffany Truitt, all of Port Gibson; three sons, Dontrell Wade, Kevin Wade and DeKendrick Jones, all of Port Gibson; three sisters, Doris Jones of Chicago, Estella Marbley and Mary Jones, both of Port Gibson; two brothers, Eddie Jones and Donnie Jones, both of Port Gibson; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends including Kimi Jones, LaDonna Brown, Ceta Barber, Jebony Jones and Roshonda Ellis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 this evening at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the hour of the service at the church.

Lillian Glenn Payne

OXFORD – Lillian Glenn Payne died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at her home in Oxford. She was 88.

Mrs. Payne was a retired librarian. She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Emory University in Atlanta. She was a member of the Browning Club, Chi Omega Sorority and First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Payne Jr.; and a son, Bob Payne.

Survivors include one son, John M. Payne of Suwanee, Ga.; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Glenn Cox of Jackson; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with the Rev. John Semmes officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Monday until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Alzheimer’s Association, 1900 Dunbarton Drive, Jackson, MS 39216.

Brian Lee Winterstein

FLORENCE – Brian Lee Winterstein, age 28, of Florence passed away at his home with his family on September 22, 2005, after a lengthy illness with Leukodystrophy.

Visitation is from 1 this evening until the hour of services at 2 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Lakewood South.

Brian graduated from Forest Hill High School where he lettered in track, soccer and also was a four year letterman in cross country. He attended Hinds Community College up to the time of his illness. He attended Griffith Memorial Baptist Church. Brian was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Brian was a devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl Winterstein Jr.; his sister, Brittany Ann Winterstein; and one brother, Bradley Earl Winterstein.

Survivors include his parents, Earl and Carol Winterstein of Florence; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Winterstein of Jackson; maternal grandmother, Robert and Ann Marie Wright of Flora and Mrs. Dale Reeves Wright of Vicksburg; uncles and aunts, Jo and Roddy Winterstein of Jackson, Mark Winterstein of Brandon, Charlotte and Chuck Kobert of Gibsonia, Pa., Linda Hollowell of Vicksburg, Marlene and Ricky Hollowell Sr. of Vicksburg, Robert Wayne and Wanda Wright of Magee, Joey and Jamie Wright of Vicksburg and Sid Daigle of New Orleans; and numerous cousins, Lori D. Wright, Chad Purvis, Todd Purvis, Jeremy Kobert, Ricky Hollowell, Velvet and Haley Hollowell, Ashley Hollowell, Christi and Taylor Lyle, Landry Winterstein, Lawson Winterstein, Damion Winterstein, Lily and Lyle Winterstein.

Our family would like to express special appreciation and love to Brian’s doctors, Dr. O. Bev Evans, Dr. Paul Sheffield and Teresa Hill N.P. The family would also like to express special love and appreciation to Brian’s nurses, Catina Lake, Phyliss Mitchell, Linda Byrd and Southern Health Care for years of devoted service.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Jenning, Joseph Jennings, Tommy Ball, John Ball, Trey French, Chad Peoples, Buck Sumrall and Kevin Stewart.
