Porters Chapel Academy (23-10) will enter the state tournament this weekend as the No. 1 seed after going a perfect 5-0 in the North State fast-pitch softball tournament in Tunica.
The Lady Eagles defeated East Holmes, 6-1, Strider, 4-1, and Deer Creek, 13-1, on Saturday. PCA won two games on Wednesday.
“It was a good tournament and we really played well,” PCA coach Chris Etheridge said.
Lauren Johnson pitched all three wins and shined on offense as well. In the East Holmes win, Johnson went 2-for-3 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored. Andi Hearn went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Jessica May had a hit and three RBIs.
In the 8-4 win over Strider, Johnson scored two runs and had an RBI. May had an RBI single in the victory. That win advanced the team to the championship against Deer Creek.
The Lady Eagles scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the third to put the game out of reach early.
Johnson doubled, tripled, had two RBIs and scored three runs in the win.
Hearn went 2-for-3 with a single, double and an RBI, and May hit a pair of singles.
The schedule for the state tournament is in limbo because the fast-pitch South State Class A tournament has been pushed back because of rain.
