Ina Mae Duncan
Ina Mae Duncan was born in Silver Spring, Miss., on Oct. 14, 1920. She departed Oct. 8, 2005.
Funeral services for Mrs. Duncan, 84, of Vicksburg, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Lamar Baptist Church south of Delhi, La. The Rev. Pat Lofton will officiate. Interment will be at the Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
Mrs. Duncan died Saturday at River Region Medical Center following a brief illness. She was a longtime resident of the Central community in Franklin Parish, La., until ill health forced her moving to Vicksburg to be near family.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Ross Sidney McHenry; her second husband, Amos Duncan; and by her parents, Charles Marshall Bullock and Mary Lola Lane Bullock.
She is survived by eight children, Elric Newell McHenry and wife, Doris Jean ”D.J.,“ of Friendswood, Texas, Ross Leroy McHenry and wife, Judith, of El Lago, Texas, Carroll Delaney McHenry and wife, Martha, of Dallas, Texas, Dewanna Eileen Blake and husband, Jerry, of Vicksburg, Allen McHenry and wife, Brenda, of Griffin, Ga., Timothy Wayne McHenry and wife, Amy, of Round Rock, Texas, Donnie LaRue McHenry of Marietta, Ga., and Maita Darlene McHenry of Monroe, La.; and by two sisters, Mary Christelle McHenry of Crystal Springs and Lola Belle Millings of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Frank Herbert Loper
Frank Herbert Loper, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Cathedral in Jackson with burial following at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson.
Mr. Loper was born the son of the late Eugene Lafayette Loper and Margaret Shaughnessy Loper in Jackson on Jan. 28, 1918. A fifth-generation Jacksonian, he was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. After high school, Mr. Loper continued his education by attending business college. Coming from a musical family as a young man, he was in several productions of the Jackson Opera Guild.
Mr. Loper was a lifetime communicant of St. Peter Catholic Cathedral and enjoyed singing in the Cathedral Choir. He joined his brothers, Eugene and Richard Loper, at Mississippi Glass Company, where he served as manager.
Mr. Loper enjoyed watching golf and working crossword puzzles. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene, Brock, Leonard and Richard Loper, and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Wadsworth Loper of Vicksburg; three sons, Frank H. Loper Jr. of League City, Texas, Leonard J. ”Buzz“ Loper of Orlando, Fla., and Edward L. Loper of Cordova, Tenn.; two daughters, Bonnie Loper Mowery and Linda Loper Jones, both of Vicksburg; a brother, J. Carroll Loper of Jackson; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Crystal Ann Merritt
Services for Crystal Ann Merritt will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Ms. Merritt died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center from injuries received in a car accident. She was 21.
She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was an employee of Walgreens.
Survivors include one son, Will Thigpen; her parents, Bill and Tamera Bliss Merritt; three brothers, Shane Merritt, Karl Merritt and Josef Merritt; three sisters, Kerri Barnes, Brittany Merritt and Aimee McBroom; and her maternal grandparents, James and Shirley Miles, all of Vicksburg.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Thigpen, Karl Merritt, Shane Merritt, Mark Wooten, Jake Wooten, Joseph Wooten, Blake Wooten, Terry Wooten and Dwayne Sumrall.
James David Street Sr.
LAKE PROVIDENCE – James David ”Bubba“ Street Sr. died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at his home in Lake Providence. He was 51.
Mr. Street was born in Yazoo City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hess Street and Vivian Grace Toombs Street.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Boyd Street of Lake Providence; four sons, James David Street Jr. and Bryan Jonathan Street, both of Lake Providence, Spence Street of Oak Grove and Michael Hess Street of Yazoo City; a brother, Stephen Edward Street of Yazoo City; three sisters, Nansy Huntsberry of Pearl, Vivian Steed of Brandon and Joyce Coker of Cary; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Wesley Bennett officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service.
Bernard Whiting
PORT GIBSON – Bernard Whiting died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 82.
Mr. Whiting was a member and deacon at Welcome M.B. Church. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Baptist Aid, Christian Aid and Masonic Lodge No. 21.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Whiting Sr. and Georgia Wilson-Whiting; his wives, Lillie Buck Whiting and Annie Bell Whiting; a son, James Whiting; a daughter, Shirley Jean Whiting; and one grandson, Kenric Whiting.
He is survived by a son, Leroy Whiting of Port Gibson; three daughters, Jannie Duckworth of Huntsville, Ala., Josie Smith of Lansing, Mich., and Georgia Freeman of Fort Meade, Md.; three sisters, Fannie Whiting of Port Gibson, Diane Hughes of Vicksburg and Velma Whiting of Des Moines, Iowa; eight brothers, Eddie Williams and James Whiting III, both of Port Gibson, and Lynn Whiting, Lydell Whiting, Carl Whiting, Addison Whiting, Ronald Whiting and Chester Whiting, all of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Welcome M.B. Church with the Rev. James Buck officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be until 6 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Tuesday at the church from noon until the service.
Samuel Williams
Samuel Williams died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 85.
Mr. Williams retired as a supply supervisor from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.
He was preceded in death by his father, George C. Williams Sr.; a brother, George C. Williams Jr.; and a stepbrother, Alonzo Green.
Survivors include his wife, Perri Campbell Williams of Vicksburg; one daughter, Evelyn Williams of Detroit; a stepson, Herman J. Campbell Sr. of Vicksburg; one brother, Tommy Williams Sr. of Vicksburg; one sister, Mary Frances Morgan of Los Angeles; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
