Anna T. Godwin
TALLULAH – Anna T. Godwin died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at her home in Tallulah. She was 69.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Mena, Ark., and had lived in Tallulah for 31 years. She owned and operated BAG Pilot Car Escort Services and was a former State of Texas pilot car associate. She had also been a professional artist for more than 40 years.
She was a member of the Tallulah Book Club, Garden Club and First Baptist Church and was former president of the Louisiana State General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Maggie Terwilleger, and her husband, William M. “Bud” Godwin.
Survivors include one son, Randy L. Godwin of Tallulah; two daughters, Carolyn Adair of Ripley and Sonya Pertuit of Slidell, La.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery in Newellton.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Jordan, Patrick Deville, Jeff McClure, Jimmy Adams Jr., Mike Adams and Bill Coon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Ashley, Marvin Yahn, Raymond Yahn, Jody Edleston, Tim Adams and Tony Deville.
Mary Alice Hall
Services for Mary Alice “Money” Hall will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cool Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Byron Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Home.
Ms. Hall died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 64.
Ms. Hall retired as a custodian for Bowmar Elementary School. She was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Alice Johnson Hall and Willie Hall Sr.; one daughter, Alice Marie Ross; three brothers, Marlin Hall, Willie Hall Jr. and Joe Willie Hall; and one sister, Katie Mae Harris.
Survivors include her stepmother, Flossie Hall; two sons, George Ross Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donald Ross of Vicksburg; one daughter, Wanda Kay Hall of Las Vegas; seven brothers, Nathaniel Hall and Eugene Hall, both of Chicago, Johnnie Wayne Hall of Atlanta, Willie Joe Hall and James Earl Wilson, both of Waynesboro, and Countee Hall and John Shelby, both of Vicksburg; and six sisters, Clara Reynolds and Bertha Anderson, both of Vicksburg, and Mary Alice Hall, Vivian Hall, Stephanie Michell Hall and Carlene Wilson, all of Waynesboro.
Derral Reshard Holmes
Derral Reshard Holmes died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 25.
Mr. Holmes was a security guard at Horizon Casino. He was a member of Holly Grove M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Tiffany Denise Holmes; and three brothers, Charles Holmes III, Charles Holmes IV and Charles Holmes V.
He is survived by three sons, Derral R. Holmes Jr. and Jacobia Phillips, both of Tallulah, and Shandrick Holmes of Edwards; his parents, Charles R. Holmes Sr. and Corine Williams Holmes of Vicksburg; three brothers, Charles Richard Holmes Jr. and Abdul Lovett, both of Vicksburg, and Kevin Hanger of Memphis; four sisters, Carolyn Ellis of Jackson, Gloria Young of Atlanta, and Tammy Richardson and Julliette Wilson, both of Vicksburg; and uncles, aunts and cousins.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Myrtle Louise Jackson
Myrtle Louise Jackson died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jackson was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred B. Cosey and Mildred Topps Cosey; a sister, Ethel Kline; and a brother, George Cosey.
She is survived by her husband, Lucious Jackson; two daughters, Toni Kyles of Chicago and Donise Jackson of Vicksburg; two sons, Carl Jackson of Cincinnati and Michael J. Jackson of Vicksburg; a grandson she reared, Michael C. Jackson; two brothers, Leon Cosey of Las Vegas and Frank Cosey of Vicksburg; two sisters, Marla Scott of Vicksburg and Barbara Turner of Chicago; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Ruth McFarland
Services for Ruth McFarland will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Zion No. 3 M.B. Church with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mrs. McFarland died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 86.
Mrs. McFarland was a homemaker.
She was a member of Mount Zion No. 3 M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam McFarland; her parents, Sylvester Bass Sr. and Jeanette Sims Bass; four brothers, Sylvester Bass Jr., Willie Bass, Allen Bass and Issac Bass; and one sister, Elizabeth Palmer.
Survivors include two stepsons, Sam McFarland Jr. and Ernest McFarland, both of Las Vegas; two stepdaughters, Temorie McNeil and Dorothy McFarland, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Dr. Joseph Bass of Bordentown, N.J.; one sister, Rosalie Harris of Buffalo, N.Y.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Willie James Prentiss
Willie James Prentiss died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 45.
Mr. Prentiss was a driver for J&B Cab Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson “Jeff” Prentiss and Alberta Cook Prentiss.
He is survived by a daughter, Noel Parrish, and a stepdaughter, LaKisha Sims, both of Vicksburg.
