Zoning board OKs Pot of Gold development|[11/2/05]

With some conditions, Pot of Gold Casino and Magnolia Resort won a 3-2 endorsement of the Vicksburg Zoning Board Tuesday night to move ahead in developing 18.5 acres just north of the Rainbow complex on 1046 Warrenton Road.

The project now moves to the Mayor and Alderman, who are expected to ratify the lay board’s action.

After a 10-year lapse, there are now two casino projects in preconstruction phases. Lakes Gaming has cleared most regulatory hurdles and may start construction on its $250 million project on Meadow Lane off U.S. 61 South in January.

Pot of Gold is about a third of the way through hearings at state and local levels for its $42 million project. No construction date has been set.

The zoning designation OK’d for its parent company, Magnolia Hill LLC, was based on several requirements:
