Mary Baldwin
Mary Baldwin died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.
Mrs. Baldwin was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hannah Bankston, and a son, J.B. Baldwin.
She is survived by three sons, Douglas Baldwin Jr. of Hollandale, Cleo Baldwin of Vicksburg and Calvin Baldwin of Greenville; six daughters, Johnnie Louise Bennett, Mary Lee Jones and Barbara Walters, all of Chicago, Velma Hill of Vicksburg, Dorothy Barnum of Greenville and Shirley Jackson of Utah; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Freddie E. Burks
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freddie E. Burks died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was 62.
A native of Port Gibson, Mr. Burks was a 1966 graduate of Alcorn State University. He worked for 30 years as a probation officer in San Mateo County, Calif., before moving to Winston-Salem, where he worked for the Forsyth County ABC Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Osborne S. Burks and Clara Smith Burks; and a brother, Allen E. Burks Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Lois McRae Burks; three daughters, Amber Mansir of Sausalito, Calif., Tyneta Heath of Burlington, N.J., and Erin Wheeler of Freemont, Calif.; two sons, Keith Burks of Antioch, Calif., and Kyle Burks of Ventura, Calif.; three sisters, Irma Daily of West Point, Jessie Arnold of Lorman and Ruth Juanita of Troy, Mich.; one brother, Osborne Burks Jr. of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Zion Memorial Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with the Rev. Joseph Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Russell Funeral Home of Winston-Salem.
Rosalean B. Hicks
Rosalean B. Hicks died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Hicks retired as a cook from Mister C’s Restaurant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hicks; her parents, Lillie and Peter Bolden; a son, Earl Bolden; 10 sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Lurline Hicks Green of Vicksburg and Jurline Hicks Howard of Detroit; a sister, Martha Bailey of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Mims, Smith, Parson, Murphy, Bell and Williams families.

Ernest Anthony Mayfield
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – Ernest Anthony Mayfield died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 20055, in Apple Valley, Calif. He was 57.
Mr. Mayfield is survived by a number of relatives in Vicksburg.
Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Chapel at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif. Burial followed under the direction of Ashley-Grigsby Mortuary in Los Angeles.
Audell Mangum McAlpin
MAGEE – Audell Mangum McAlpin was born on May 3, 1910, and died on Nov. 7, 2005, at the age of 95. She was a longtime resident of Magee. She was the daughter of the late Jimmy and Lucy Rankin Mangum of Magee.
Mrs. McAlpin was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gabriel G. McAlpin; three brothers, Charlie Mangum, Ethel Mangum and Lowery Mangum; and three sisters, Adie Ates, Zora Ates and Emma Myers.
Mrs. McAlpin was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Magee, where she served for 40 years in the Children’s Division of Sunday school. She was a homemaker, enjoying cooking, gardening, sewing and crocheting.
Mrs. McAlpin is survived by one son, Delmas Gabriel McAlpin and daughter-in-law, Johnnell Kennedy McAlpin of Magee; one daughter, Lynda McAlpin Oswalt and son-in-law, Noel Randy Oswalt of Vicksburg; three granddaughters, Lyn Horn Cordes of Vicksburg, Jennifer Oswalt Thompson of Houston, Texas, and Jill Oswalt Perez of Denver, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Eudean Ates, Mack Gardner, Elwyn Mangum, Jimmy Mangum, Dolton McAlpin, Jack McAlpin, Mike McAlpin and Jerry Myers.

Earthleen Smith
Earthleen Smith died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at St. Peter’s Villa in Memphis. She was 80.
Formerly of Vicksburg, Mrs. Smith was a resident of Memphis.
She is survived by two daughters and three sons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion No. 1 M.B. Church, 920 Fifth North St. in Vicksburg.
