A final draft of Warren County’s response to natural and other disasters can go forward after a two-year wait, supervisors decided Monday.

Composed by the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District by federal mandate in 2003, the plan identifies and looks at the risks of the major natural hazards that affect the county. The plan had been in rough draft mode since then.

The board heard from Emergency Management Director L.W. &#8220Bump” Callaway on the matter.

Callaway conveyed to the board that the plan is explanatory in nature and only minor changes of a &#8220grammatical” nature needed to be made for the final draft.

District 4 Supervisor Carl Flanders said the local steering committee that defined the county’s vulnerabilities &#8220exists only on paper” and had not met since 2004.

The committee consists of Callaway as voting representative, followed by Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, Warren County Fire Coordinator Kelly Worthy, Lynn Wolfe of ABMB Engineering Inc., Butch Newman of Vicksburg Warren County School District and Hilton Dyar of Hinds Community College.

Former District 4 Supervisor Bill Lauderdale and former Road Department Manager Rhea Fuller also are listed as members, as the plan was initiated when they held those positions.

The federal mandate that created the plan stipulates meetings take place only once every five years.

The board approved a motion by District 3 Supervisor Charles Selmon recommending annual meetings of the committee.
