Roosevelt Bailey
ROLLING FORK – Roosevelt Bailey died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at his home in Rolling Fork. He was 70.
Mr. Bailey was retired from Forestry Services.
He is survived by a brother, the Rev. Frank Bailey of Vicksburg; and a sister, Mose Anna Alexander of Waukegan, Ill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Herald M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with Pastor Maxwell Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery.
Tommie Lee Bailey
Services for Tommie Lee Bailey will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Bailey died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital Burn Center in Little Rock. He was 34.
Mr. Bailey was a 1989 graduate of Warren Central High School. He was a member of Cool Spring M.B. Church and later joined 2nd Greater Baptist Church in Little Rock. He was employed with ABF Freight Systems.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearlean and Roosevelt Bailey; his grandparents, Steve and Earnestine Bailey, Berry and Melisia Jordan and Amos Johnson; and a brother, Leon Bailey.
Survivors include two daughters, Bethany Bailey and Tommiesha Bailey; two sons, Antonio Bailey and Tommie Bailey Jr.; nine sisters, Sharolyn Bailey, Willena Dotson and Dorothy Hollins, all of Vicksburg, Carolyn Hollins of Cleveland, Ohio, Debra Linek of Columbus, Ohio, Cora Floyd of Lake Charles, La., Gladys McElrath of Joliet, Ill., and Melisia Moore and Vergie Thompson, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven brothers, Nathaniel Bailey, Roosevelt Bailey, Forrest Hollins and Newton Hollins, all of Vicksburg, Freddie Bailey and David Hollins, both of Joliet, and Dennis Bailey of Memphis; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Houston, Jordan and Bailey families.
Alberta Edwards
OAK GROVE – Alberta Edwards died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital. She was 91.
Mrs. Edwards was born in West Carroll Parish and was a resident of Oak Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter P. “Buff” Edwards; a son, Donald Franklin “Buddy” Edwards; one brother, Louis Bruce; one sister, Alice McGaha; and her parents, Jesse Eugene and Ellen McMullen Bruce.
She is survived by a daughter, Minnie Stephens of Oak Grove; three sisters, Grace Leihr, Polly Costello and Virginia Hill, all of Oak Grove; one brother, James Bruce of Oak Grove; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Kilbourne Methodist Church with the Rev. Donna Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until noon today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.
Pallbearers will be Mike Whitney, Johnny Costello, John Heber Costello, David Edwards, Leonard Best and Chris Hill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Murray, Bobby Capers, Bill Langston, Ernest Harrell, Phillip Littlefield, Billy Bedenbender, John A. Tullos, Sonny Stephens and J.R. Hamilton.
Joseph Smith
PORT GIBSON – Joseph Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 95.
Mr. Smith was a member of Campbell Chapel Church in Port Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Smith, and his parents, Benny Smith Sr. and Mintie January Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Tillman of Roxie and Mary Lee Smith of Port Gibson; two sons, Thomas A. Smith of Port Gibson and Joseph Smith Jr. of Conyers, Ga.; a brother, Benny Smith Jr. of Port Gibson; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Chapel Church with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Jones. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson with family hour from 6 until 7.
Mary Washington
Mary Washington died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 91.
Mrs. Washington was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Evelyn Rucker; two daughters, Wanda W. Gordon and Essie W. Duhon; four brothers, Will Rucker, Mamon Rucker Sr., Reason Rucker and Joseph Rucker; and three sister, Rose Rucker, Gertrude Rucker and Francis Rucker Fleming.
She is survived by two sons, Charles E. Washington and Kenneth Washington, both of New Orleans; a sister, Essie Rucker Durman of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Alban M.B. Church of Vicksburg with the Rev. J.D. Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
