After a five-month investigation by the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Department and Louisiana State Police, a Lake Providence woman has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the June deaths of her two children.

Investigator Brandon Wiltcher of the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Department said LyTrenda S. Taylor, 27, was arrested Thursday after the investigation concluded the woman lied about what happened to her children on June 29.

&#8220We were called to 1005 Hamley St. on a report that two children had drowned in a bathtub,” Wiltcher said. But the circumstances &#8220looked pretty suspicious.”

Wiltcher said Taylor initially told deputies she left her son, Jeremy Lee Morrison, 7, and her daughter, Myiesha Lee Morrison, 5, in the tub while she went outside to finish mowing the yard and when she returned minutes later, the children were unconscious. She reportedly ran across the street to her mother’s house and they returned to Taylor’s home to do CPR.

&#8220But the scene and the manner in which she said it happened didn’t add up,” Wiltcher said. &#8220It just didn’t make sense from the beginning.”

However, it took five months for authorities to make the arrest because Taylor stopped answering questions, Wiltcher said.

&#8220Basically, it took five months because she refused to talk to anyone from Day 1,” he said. &#8220She refused to talk to investigators and refused to take a polygraph test, and that made it pretty difficult to find out any details. We could only talk to family members.”

The children’s father did not live at Taylor’s home, and the investigation found Taylor’s boyfriend was at work when the children died, Wiltcher said.

&#8220She was the only one there at the time,” he said. &#8220It just took a little while to put all the circumstantial evidence and lab results together. At that point, we decided to go ahead and move forward with the arrest.”

Taylor was booked into the Riverbend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish without bond.
