Bessie Gertrude Brooks

Bessie Gertrude Brooks died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 100.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Vernon, Ala., and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 60 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Brooks, and a son, Johnny L. Brooks.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Brooks and wife, Judy, of Tallulah and Neil Brooks and wife, Rebecca, of Vicksburg; four daughters, Yvonne Winstead and husband, James, Lillian Martin and late husband, Vernon, Vi Sanderson and husband, Ray, and Faye Daniels and husband, David, all of Vicksburg; and 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Reggie Crawford and the Rev. James Messer officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Troy Jones, Adam Penalver, Todd Boolos, Jimmy Winstead, Donnie Martin and Vernon Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Marascalco, Dr. Daniel Edney, Whitney Doiron, Lynda Smith, Kathy Yelverton, Mary Margaret Brabston and the staff of Mississippi Home Care.

Mrs. Brooks’ family gratefully acknowledges Haworth Home Health and Mississippi Home Care for 30 years of devotion to the care of our mother.

Maggie L. Buchholtz

Maggie L. Buchholtz died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 98.

Mrs. Buchholtz was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She retired from The Valley Dry Goods Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served for 60 years as secretary of her Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Buchholtz Sr.; her parents, Archie and Etta Campbell Beard; two brothers, Henry and Arch Beard; four sisters, Alice, Hazel, Laura and Ruby Irene Beard; and a son, James E. Buchholtz.

She is survived by a son, John T. Buchholtz Jr. of Nampa, Idaho; a daughter, Hazel Myers of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Alice M. Jones, Troy J. Myers Jr., John T. Myers, Bryan J. Buchholtz, Cameron E. Buchholtz and J. Timothy Buchholtz; eight great-grandchildren, Courtney Jones, Holly Jones, Joshua Myers, Caleb Myers, Deana Harris, Jason Hays, Tiffany Vuong and Caitlin Buchholtz; and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Drs. John G. McCall, Matt Buckles and Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Troy Myers Jr., John Myers, Ronnie Johnston, Mike Jones, Bryan Buchholtz and Dennis Markle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Lagg, David Haworth, D.D. Davidson and Dr. Paul Pierce.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Jane C. Thrasher

MOSS POINT – Jane C. Thrasher, age 64, of Moss Point, Miss., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, in Pascagoula. She was born in Jackson, Miss., on Dec. 29, 1940. She attended Trinity Holiness Church in Pascagoula and loved to fish and golf and devoted much of her time to her precious grandchildren.

Ms. Thrasher was employed at Techweld Inc. as a secretary and bookkeeper for 18 years. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Josephine Clark.

Survivors include two sons, William Edward &#8220Buddy” Mitchell III of Picayune and Daniel B. (Cathy) Mitchell of Vicksburg; daughter, Janelle Mitchell of Pascagoula; three grandchildren, Vincent Jowers and Christin and Katelyn Mitchell; two brothers, Joe (Judy) Clark and Fred Clark, both of Pascagoula; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be today, Dec. 14, from 1-2 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Jowers officiating.

Immediately following the memorial service, the family will gather at Trinity Holiness Church on 14th Street in Pascagoula to visit with family, friends and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Ms. Thrasher to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital located at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
