Chris Mixon’s goal of a state championship eluded him, but the consolation prizes keep rolling in.

Mixon, Porters Chapel Academy’s star tailback, has been selected to the All-Mississippi Private School Association’s all-state second team. He is joined on the second team by Tensas Academy’s Cody Hill and Sharkey-Issaquena lineman Matt Prine.

Central Hinds defensive lineman Tim May was selected first-team All-MPSA. All four players participated in last week’s MPSA All-Star game in Clinton.

Mixon, who was selected as a second-team All-MPSA running back, helped PCA to the best season in school history by rushing for 1,502 yards and 20 touchdowns. He amassed 1,913 all-purpose yards and was also a linebacker for PCA’s defense, which didn’t allow a touchdown until a state semifinal loss to Lee Academy (Ark.). Mixon finished the season with 104 tackles, including 24 in the 20-13 loss to Lee.

Hill was an All-District 7-A selection as a tight end and defensive lineman, helping Tensas to a 5-5 record. Hill caught six passes for 73 yards, ran for 318 yards and six touchdowns, and made 82 tackles on defense. He had 25 tackles for loss and five sacks.

Prine was a solid offensive lineman for three seasons at SIA, and came into his own on both sides of the ball this year. He earned the all-star nod as an offensive lineman, but also had 68 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries on the defensive side.

May was a stalwart in the middle of Central Hinds’ defensive line. In addition to the all-star nod and the All-MPSA honors, the 6-foot, 265-pound senior defensive tackle was selected to the All-District 3-AA team.
