In six months, Bowie Road northeast of Vicksburg will be no more.

Instead, the road linking U.S. 61 North to the Openwood area will be renumbered with Oak Ridge Road addresses.

The Warren County 911 Commission approved the change at its monthly meeting Wednesday.

The vote followed letters to addresses along Bowie and a portion of Oak Ridge approved earlier for renumbering with Culkin Road addresses.

The letters explained the plan and asked for input. Only Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church on Bowie officially responded with a concern about its stock of stationery, said Kenny Staggs, the county’s address officer.

Effective June 30, Oak Ridge Road will start at U.S. 61 and extend through a redesign project that eliminated the &#8220T” intersection that had linked Bowie to Oak Ridge. The elimination of the intersection is what prompted the name changes.

&#8220It’s basically the same continuous road,” Staggs said.

Culkin Road also runs east off U.S. 61, and has dead-ended into Freetown Road at the three-way intersection where it meets Oak Ridge. Instead of dead-ending, Culkin will instead turn north and encompass what is now the southern half of Oak Ridge Road to the point that Bowie and Oak Ridge now meet.

George Nasif Jr., who operates Vicksburg Specialty Co. on Bowie Road with his father, said getting an address changed is &#8220like an act of Congress,” especially because of government oversight related to the store’s tobacco trade. Vicksburg Specialty still occasionally gets mail from its old Washington Street location five years after moving, Nasif said.

&#8220As long as they give us plenty of time to let our invoices, checks and letterheads run out, it doesn’t matter to me,” Nasif said. &#8220It’s going to be an inconvenience.”

Mail addressed to an old address will still be delivered a year after the official change, said Staggs, which will give residents and businesses an 18-month grace period.
