David H. Bell III.

DELHI – Funeral services for David H. Bell III, 80, of Delhi were held at 10 a.m. today at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Rayville with the Rev. William Baldridge and the Rev. Paul Lipe officiating. Burial was at the Old City Cemetery in Bastrop under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.

The family received friends at Mr. Bell’s residence, Fair Oaks, 148 Greenwood Place in Delhi, from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Bell was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving as a federal investigator. He was in the U.S. Navy during WW I, serving in the Pacific and receiving a Presidential Citation while aboard the submarine USS Silversides.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David H. Bell Jr. and Ruth Priestley Bell.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hester Bell of Delhi; a daughter, Cathey Bell of Covington, La.; a son, David H. Bell IV and wife, Shannon, of Vicksburg; and two granddaughters, Jordan Bell and Caitlin Bell of Vicksburg.

Mr. Bell was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry.

He attended the University of The South, Sewanee, and graduated from Louisiana Tech University.

He was very proud of his Southern heritage and his service to his country. He loved his family and friends. He was proud of his efforts to establish and maintain the North Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe. He did as much as he could for as many as he could for as long as he could.

Pallbearers were Huey O’Neal, Milt Lang, Bruce McEacharn, Billy Cutler, Frank E. Maxwell and Jimmy Hopson.

Rev. Robert Jackson Bush.

OAK GROVE – The Rev. Robert &#8220Jack” Jackson Bush died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove. He was 82.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Benoit Bush and Katie Bush; and one son, John Robert Bush.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Bush of Oak Grove; three daughters, Barbara Torrance of Oak Grove, Judy Fullerton of Quitman, La., and Debra Byrd of Jackson; one sister, Maydelle Barr of Bastrop, La.; three brothers, J.B. Bush of Oak Grove, Tommy Bush of Ada, Okla., and Lamar Bush of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Pentecostal Church in Oak Grove with the Revs. Keith Riley and Jimbo Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 this morning until 5 this evening at Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Byrd III, Robert Byrd, Steven Miller, Tim Cumpton, Todd Smith and Brian Burns.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Byrd III and Robert Byrd.

Perry Eatmon Jr.

Perry Eatmon Jr. died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Chicago. He was 60.

Born in Vicksburg to Perry Eatmon Sr. and Maggie Baker, Mr. Eatmon attended Warren County Public Schools. He worked as a butcher at Nosser’s Grocery before moving to Illinois in 1970.

He was a member of the 167th Elks Lodge in Lockport, Ill., and Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Della Eatmon Caples of Dallas and Anna Johnson of Jackson; one son, Derrick Shields of Vallejo, Calif.; two brothers, Percy Washington of Vicksburg and Sidney Eatmon of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Clarence Maxey and Alonzo England of Vicksburg.

Rosa Lee Frith.

OAK GROVE – Rosa Lee Frith died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 89.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Frith; her parents, Henry Van Buren Fairchild and Laura Fairchild; stepmother, Bertha Fairchild; one son, Charles Frith; one brother, Ray Fairchild; and three sisters, Ola Mae McCaskill, Mattie Lee Whitehead and Fannie Swafford.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd Frith of Forest and Kenneth Frith of Lake Providence; two daughters, Annette Yates of Forest and Louise Martin of Lake Providence; one sister, Bonnie Butler of Oak Grove; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 today at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Roy Williams and Bill Bearden officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest City Cemetery in Forest. Visitation will be from 8 this morning until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be John David Frith, Toby Frith, Wayne Martin, Ed Martin, Richie Johns, Glenn Frith, Craig Crawford and Heath Prine.

Honorary pallbearer will be the Rev. Mark Elliott.

Verna Ruth Fowler Miller.

ROLLING FORK – Verna Ruth Fowler Miller died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 89.

Born in Inverness, Mrs. Miller had lived in Anguilla since 1937 before moving to Rolling Fork 12 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Hollandale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lake E. Miller; and a grandson, Wade Lee.

She is survived by two sons, James L. Miller and Deanie Miller, both of Rolling Fork; two daughters, Jo Ann Lee of Mayersville and Billie June Woods of Vicksburg; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Shane Miller, Michael Miller, Cody Miller, Mike Barlow, W.C. Alderman and Lester Fowler.

James I. Pace Sr.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – James I. Pace Sr. died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was 78.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Pace was a longtime employee of Westinghouse, Crouse-Hines and Cooper Lighting. He and his family moved to Birmingham in 1969 with Westinghouse. He retired in 1986 as the southeastern regional U.S. sales manager.

He had been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg, where he was a deacon, and a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. He also was a past president of the Hoover New Horizon Club in Birmingham.

Mr. Pace was preceded in death by his parents, E.M. and Stella Frances Pace; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Pace Kirkley; a brother, William M. Pace Sr.; and a nephew, Foster Dale Kirkley.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vivian Mackey Pace of Birmingham; two sons, James I. Pace Jr. of Peachtree City, Ga., and David M. Pace of Vicksburg; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Sterley of Sanatoga, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren,.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Charles C. Ryan Sr.

Mr. Charles C. Ryan Sr. passed away peacefully in his 93rd year after a lengthy illness on Thursday, December 29, 2005.

Mr. Ryan was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and worked for the Corps of Engineers for 40 years. A veteran of World War II, he served in India as an Army-Air Force radio operator. Mr. Ryan was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 70 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Brown Duffey Ryan; his children, Charles Jr. and wife, LinMarie Garsee, Michael Ryan, Ellen Jenkins and her husband, Mike, Milly Ryan-Harshman and her husband, James Harshman, and Duffey and his wife, Julia. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Eric Ryan Jenkins, Christopher Page, Jamie Elizabeth and Timothy Charles Harshman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at St. Paul Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Paul Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. After the interment, a light lunch will follow at Glynn Hall in the church basement.

Pallbearers will be Mike Jenkins, James Harshman, Eric Jenkins, Chris Harshman, Tim Harshman and Jesse Gomez, a family friend. Honorary pallbearer will be Sidney Tucker, another family friend.
