Lorine Smith Acuff died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Born in Belzoni, Mrs. Acuff had been a longtime Vicksburg resident. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Learned.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh F. Acuff Sr.; a sister, Neline Andrews; and a brother, L.J. Smith Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Hugh F. Acuff Jr. and Phillip Wayne Acuff, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Marie Ellison of Vicksburg; two sisters, Aline Myers of West and Adelle Boswell of Provo, Utah; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Rev. Ed Hightower officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Rob Ellison, Jeff Ellison, Trey Acuff, Glenn Myrick, Jake Neihaus, Will Neihaus and Jason Acuff.

Mary Elizabeth Farris Saloom.

ENTERPRISE, Ala. – Mary Elizabeth (Mel) Farris Saloom, 78, of Enterprise, Ala., formerly of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at her home in Enterprise.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with Father Andrew Moore of St. Michael’s Orthodox Mission officiating. Burial will follow at Enterprise City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Saloom’s body will be at the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Searcy Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Manera Saloom and Chris Searcy, Selma, Ala., Debra Saloom and Wayne Strickland, Dothan, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Ruth Saloom, Montgomery, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Lin Singleton, Manera Elizabeth Saloom, Michael Joseph Saloom, Mary Kathryn Searcy, Chris Jackson Searcy Jr., Houston Farris Searcy, Steve and Wendy Strickland; and two great-grandchildren, Hilary Crawford and Hayden Crawford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Orthodox Mission, 218 Hodgesville Road, Dothan, AL 36301.

Fai Peng Sitou Yu.

TALLULAH – Fai Peng Sitou Yu died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 60.

Mrs. Yu was born in Hoi Ping, China, and came to the United States in 1976. She lived in Lake Providence before moving to Tallulah in 1988. She worked as a co-manager with Golden Gate Grocery for 17 years.

Survivors include her husband, Yuen Shing Yu of Tallulah; one daughter, Kit Chi Yu of Dallas; two sons, Man Kit Yu and Peter Yu, both of Tallulah; one brother, Yet Pui Sitou of the United Kingdom; and one sister, Yet Hung Sitou of Hong Kong.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Tallulah with Betty Jean Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dean Wall, Stuart Wall, Leland Jong, George Lee, Wilson Tam and Young G. Yee.
