Nancy Jean Dent Braswell.
Nancy Jean Dent Braswell died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 53.
Mrs. Braswell was a native of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of Vicksburg for most of her life. She was a graduate of Warren Central High School.
She had worked for 10 years as a bookkeeper for the former Vicksburg Concrete Company and was a paralegal for Waterways Experiment Station for 24 years.
She was a member of the Vicksburg Women’s Soccer Association, Vicksburg Quilters, Cotton Patchers, Mississippi Quilt Association, Daughters of Confederacy and was a Founder of Vicksburg Dixie Divas Red Hat Society. She was the recipient of the Corps of Engineer Keystone Award, recognizing outstanding contribution to the Corp Legal Services. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Braswell of Vicksburg; one son, Wesley Whitaker and wife, Suzanne, both of Centerville, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Lexie Whitaker of Centerville, Tenn.; her father, Richard Dent of Valley Park, Miss.; her mother, Mary G. Dent of Austin, Texas; one brother, John Dent of Valley Park, Miss.; and one sister, Donna Dent of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Grady Sowell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Bailey, Tim Beatty, Phillip Dent, Steve Kaminski, Bill Lovelady, John Treadwell and Wesley Whitaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeannine Beatty, Phyllis Birchett, Carolyn Harrison, Pam May and Cindy Teeter.

MONTICELLO, La. – Funeral services for Mary L. Brewer, 82, of Tallulah and Monticello, La., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at the Herringville Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello, La. The Rev. Donnie Linson will officiate. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2006, at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.
Mrs. Brewer died Wednesday at her daughter’s residence in Vicksburg following a brief illness.
A member of Herringville Church, Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her parents, Bennett and Viola Fortenberry; her husband, Pete Brewer; son, Billy Joe Brewer; brothers, Earl, Bill and Bobby Fortenberry; a sister, Jewel Petty; a granddaughter, Leslie Brewer; and a special nephew, James Brewer.
Grandma Pete was a special person in that she was mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She took in children who needed a home and loved them as her own. Everyone’s needs always came ahead of hers, and her sacrifices will be remembered and missed. Her family loved her dearly.
She is survived by her children, Sue Tolbert and husband, Dale, of Vicksburg, Janie Thornberry and husband, Gary, of Malvern, Ark., Ernest Brewer and wife, Linda, of Sheridan, Ark., David Brewer and wife, Angie, of Tallulah, John Edward Brewer and wife, Betty Jo, of Tallulah and Robert Earl Brewer and wife, Jackie, of Vicksburg; two brothers, Walter Fortenberry of Pennsville, N.J., and Charlie Fortenberry of McComb, Miss.; one sister, Melva Lowery and husband, William “Billyā€¯ Lowery, of Gulfport, Miss; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Other close survivors are a former daughter-in-law, Marti Brewer of Delhi; a special niece whom she raised, Bonnie Brewer of Wake Village, Texas; and a very special grandson, SPC John Brewer, now serving in Iraq.
Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.

Sarjit Singh Dhillon.
Sarjit Singh Dhillon died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006. He was 69.
Born in India, he was the son of the late Shivcharn Singh Dhillon and Jasmar Dhillon. He had lived in Vicksburg for the past 15 years.
He attended a number of American universities and was a retired nuclear science engineer.
He is survived by a son, Ronjit Singh Dhillon of Sparks, Nev.; a daughter, Natsha L. Dhillon of Sparks; and two grandchildren.

Brenda Gail Adams-Gordon.
Brenda Gail Adams-Gordon of Richland, Miss., age 39, was born Jan. 10, 1967, in Jackson, Miss. She attended Wingfield High School, participating in the Flag Corps, and she also attended Mississippi State University, majoring in English with a minor in history. She later attended the University of Southern Mississippi, taking anthropology, and while there she participated in her second trip to Ireland, along with her husband. Brenda attended Mississippi College art classes, creating many fine pieces of pottery.
Matthew Brian Gordon and Brenda married in 1994 and, since that union, they have produced three beautiful children: Patrick Alexander, age 9; Rhiannon Katherine, age 7; and Elijah Kieran, age 3. Illness permitting, the family attended St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Pearl, Miss.
Brenda passed along many passions to her children, which included various forms of art, her love of Ireland, and her love of reading and writing, leaving many treasures and journals. Brenda, along with her daughter, mother and sister, was a member of the Red Hat Society’s Jumbled Jewels of Dixie. She enjoyed her family and friends and will be missed by all.
Her father, Hugh Edward Adams, precedes her in death.
She leaves behind her loving and attentive husband, Matthew Brian Gordon, and her three children, Patrick, Rhiannon and Elijah, all of Richland, Miss.; her mother, Peggy Adams of Southaven, Miss.; her sister, Patricia Lee Stout of Horn Lake, Miss.; her brother, Gary Adams of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a grandfather, Murray Tatum of Nashville, Tenn. In addition, she leaves her father- and mother-in-law, Tommy and Rosemary Gordon of Vicksburg; many caring aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, along with many friends accumulated throughout her short time here.

Hazel Williams Vaughn.
Hazel Williams Vaughn died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Vaughn was a retired custodian at the Warren County Court House and a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church.
In addition to her parents, John and Josephine Turner Williams, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard F. Williams; a sister, Mable Williams; and her husband, John W. Vaughn.
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by a son, John W. Vaughn of Vicksburg; six daughters, Jennifer Blakley of Riverside, Calif.; Alice Shelton of San Diego, Calif.; Carolyn Vaughn of Memphis; and Claudette Vaughn, Christine Smothers and Gwendolyn Williams, all of Vicksburg; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 6 until 7 p.m.
