Willie Burden Sr.
Willie Burden Sr. died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.
Mr. Burden was a self-employed contractor. He was a former employee of Frank J. Fisher and W.H. Jefferson funeral homes. He was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, McKinley Burden; and his mother, Rosa Lee “Buck” Paige Searcy.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Richardson Burden of Vicksburg; a son, Willie Burden Jr. of Vicksburg; five daughters, Angelakay Burden and Mary White, both of Atlanta, Barbara White of Vicksburg, Patricia Evans of Greenville and Leona Burden of Chicago; five brothers, James Burden, Johnny Burden and Jerry Burden, all of Chicago, the Rev. Leonard Boyd of Columbus, Ga., and Frank Burden of the U.S. Army; seven sisters, Ruth Burden, Susie Burden, Dorothy Burden, Leona Burden and Bernadine Burden, all of Chicago, Jessie Mae Anderson of Vicksburg and Margaret Burden of Tchula; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Cornelus Gordon.
Cornelus Gordon died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 66.
Mr. Gordon retired from the Chicago Police Department. He was a member of Pine Grove Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Bennie Gordon; and two brothers, Napoleon Gordon and Henry Lee Gordon.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Gordon of Vicksburg; one son, Duane Gordon of Chicago; one daughter, Andrea Gordon-Grady of Chicago; his stepmother, Bernice Gordon of Port Gibson; five brothers, Robert Gordon of Clarksdale, Thomas Gordon of Broadview, Ill., Anthony Gordon Jr. of Chicago, Alfred Gordon of Orlando and Lester Patton of Bolton; one sister, Sarah Chambers of Port Gibson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Devine officiating and the Rev. Frank McGriggs assisting. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Christian Church Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from noon until the hour of service at the church.
Johnny Hollis Jr.
TALLULAH – Johnny “Scootie” Hollis Jr. died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at his home in Tallulah. He was 25.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Hollis attended Reuben McCall High School in Tallulah. He was employed with Texas Convenience Stores of Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maude Carson Hollis; and his father, Johnny Hollis Sr.
He is survived by two sisters, Tracy Banks of Edwards and Marcie Hollis of Vicksburg; three brothers, Willie Hayes Jr. of Denver, Michael Hollis of Tallulah and Sam Bunch of Las Vegas; and a niece, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Reuben McCall High School auditorium with Anthony Norwood of Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Golden Gate Funeral Home in Tallulah.
