Curline Williams Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Brown was a retired presser for One Hour Martinizing. She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church in the LeTourneau community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Brown; and her parents, Henry Williams Sr. and Alberta Williams.

Survivors include four sons, Lee Andrew Brown of Hernando and George Brown, Charles Brown Sr. and Leon Brown, all of Vicksburg; one daughter, Bernadine Hatchett of Vicksburg; a brother, Sylvester Williams of Richmond, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Louis Cartwright.

DETROIT – Services for Louis Cartwright were Jan. 31 in Detroit. Mr. Cartwright died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Detroit. He was 85.

He was born in Hankinson, Miss., and served in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tyler and Anna Pollard Cartwright; and nine siblings.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Cartwright, Crawford, Wells, Amos, Doyle, Oliver, Lewis, Dotson, Brown, Lyons and Whiten families, all of Vicksburg.

Services were at O.H. Pye Funeral Home and Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich.

Sammie L. Minnifield.

OSYKA, Miss. – Sammie L. &#8220Sam” Minnifield died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb. He was 51.

A resident of Osyka, Miss., Mr. Minnifield served in the Air Force. He retired as a supervisor from DTI Trucking Company.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Minnifield.

He is survived by his wife, Helena A. Minnifield of Osyka; his mother, Bertha Mae Adams; a son, Kevin Evans; two stepsons, Toyin Kollyade and Tremell Williams; nine brothers, Eddie Minnifield and Nathan Adams, both of Edwards, Leo Adams of Baltimore, Md., Pete Adams of Memphis, Percy Adams of New Orleans and Sherman Sanders, Willie Thomas, Stanley Minnifield and Willie Galloway, all of Jackson; 10 sisters, Ernestine Clifton of Buffalo, N.Y., Bertha Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lakora Bates of Baton Rouge and Shirley Perkins, Sandra Rayne, Betty Jean Bracey, Brenda Galloway, Ruby Summers, Vera Littleton and Mildred Ruth Minnifield, all of Jackson; his stepmother, Alma Mae Minnifield; one grandchild; and friends and other relatives, including Gloria Kelson.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home of Vicksburg has charge of arrangements.

Mabel D. Screws.

Mabel D. Screws died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 90.

Mrs. Screws was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orie Screws; and her parents, Frank Dedmon and Amanda Jones.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Jackson of Yazoo City, Mickey Laney of Eagle Lake and Jennie Watson of Holly Bluff; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Strickin-King Funeral Home Chapel in Yazoo City with the Revs. Doris Leist and A.T. Dewberry officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Watson, Randy Screws, Scottie Screws, Jimmy Jackson, Kenny Screws and William Dorris.

Frank Waites Jr.

HOUSTON, Texas – Frank Waites Jr. died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at Southwest Memorial Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He was 62.

A resident of Houston, Mr. Waites was a 1961 graduate of Addison High School in Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Waites Sr. and Pearl Waites; two brothers, Curtis Waites and Riley Wells; and two sisters, Lucinda Wells and Mosell Stingley.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Waites; two sons, Frank Rodney Waites and James Larrices Waites, both of Houston; and a brother, James R. Waites of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston under the direction of Mabrie Funeral Home.
