With the additions of twins Amy and Annie Beaugh, the St. Aloysius fast-pitch softball team appears to be loaded for 2006.

The Beaughs’ arrival gives coach Gene Rogillo five returning All-Warren County players from 2005.

Unfortunately for the veteran St. Al coach, he may not have his full roster available until mid-season.

The two Beaughs, along with All-County pitcher Sarah Franco and infielder Sarah Kerut, are playing for the Lady Flashes’ 26-1 basketball team.

&#8220It’s nothing you can do about but root for the basketball team, because they’ve done a great job this season,” Rogillio said. &#8220I hope they can bring home a state championship.”

The softball team, meanwhile, will start its season on Feb. 18 at Terry against Class 5A power Northwest Rankin. The Lady Flashes are expected to field a team made up junior varsity players mixed with a handful of returning starters.

&#8220It’s going to be our JV girls for the most part,” Rogillio said. &#8220We’re also down to one pitcher, Catelyn Park.

&#8220We had to hope move up our backup JV pitcher in Taylor Ann Hasty, but she’s hurt and now we’ve only got Catelyn.”

When Franco and Kerut return, St. Al will have a formidable pitching staff. Franco was 10-5, striking out 154 batters in 104 innings pitched with a 1.06 earned run average.

Kerut was the No. 2 pitcher behind Franco and struck out 34 in 35 innings.

The lone All-County player who’ll be in the lineup against Northwest Rankin is senior catcher Mary Myers Franco.

Kerut was the Lady Flashes’ top hitter last year, leading them to a 14-10 record. She batted .358 with 10 RBI.

Rogillio is looking forward to the spark the Beaughs will provide. Annie Beaugh led Porters Chapel with a .398 batting average, including 42 runs scored, 35 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Amy Beaugh batted .386 with 35 RBIs and 56 runs scored. She also belted nine doubles and eight triples for PCA.

Amy Beaugh is expected to play first base while Annie and Kerut man short and second base.

Junior Blair Tillman is St. Al’s top returning outfielder but will have to start the year at shortstop.
