Malissa Davis Black.

Malissa Davis Black died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Rankin Medical Center. She was 79.

Mrs. Black was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Black; two brothers, Frank Davis and Richard Lee Davis Jr.; and her parents, Richard and Rosie Connor Davis.

She is survived by two sons, Jack Curtis Black and Sye Black, both of Detroit; a daughter, Delores Black Jenkins of Houston, Texas; one brother, Willie A. Davis of Detroit; two sisters, Rosie Davis Slaughter of Chicago and Lucy Davis Davenport of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Julia Evans.

Julia Evans died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 88.

A homemaker, Mrs. Evans was a member of Seven Star M.B. Church, where she was formerly in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynch Evans Sr.; two sons, R.D. Evans and J.D. Evans; a daughter, Eliza Mae Bland; three brothers, James Casey, Leon Casey and Tommy Casey; three sisters, Lena Casey, Hanna Wilkerson and Clara Bell Jones; and her parents, James and Daisy James Casey.

Survivors include three sons, Ray Evans of Vicksburg and J.C. Evans and Vernon Evans, both of Utica; a stepson, Lynch Evans Jr. of Jackson; two daughters, Annie Bell Evans of Utica and Doris Price of Clinton; two stepdaughters, Lillian Robinson of Marrero, La., and Mary Helen Miles of Utica; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Catherine Land.

PORT GIBSON – Catherine Land died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Land was preceded in death by her husband, Burlin R. Land.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Harrison of Chicago; two brothers, Joseph Godfrey of Norfolk, Va., and Benjamin Godfrey of Portsmouth, Va.; one grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elmo Christian Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Campbell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon Tuesday until the hour of service at the church.

Calvin Thomas.

MARIETTA, Ga. – Calvin Thomas died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Kenneston Hospital in Marietta, Ga. He was 40.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Angela Thomas of Marietta; five daughters, Yolonda Thomas of Bronx, N.Y., and Quanay Thomas, Tanay Thomas, Shamoni Thomas and Shaneae Thomas, all of Marietta; his mother, Kate Tinner of Port Gibson; one brother, Kenny Thomas of Marietta; a grandson; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ashland M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and Tuesday at the church from noon until the service.
