Frances Jamison Allen.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Frances Jamison Allen, age 91, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark., after a brief illness. Born in Meridian, Miss., she was a resident of Vicksburg for 45 years, where she worked at Berry’s Dress Shop and the Valley Department Store. She had been a member of Highland Baptist Church of Vicksburg since 1951. She moved in 1996 to Shreveport, La., where she lived until recently.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin F. and Myrtle E. Jamison; her husband of 53 years, Thomas V. Allen Sr.; and two sisters, Mollie Allen Griffin and Virginia M. Dearman.
She is survived by one son, Thomas V. Allen Jr. and wife, Dianne, both of Castine, Maine; one granddaughter, Laura-Ashley Overdyke and husband, Lloyd, both of Alexandria, Va.; two stepgrandsons, Edward R. Budd of Baton Rouge, La., and Nicholas W. Budd of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Alberta E. Miller of Lady Lake, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Henry C. Allen Jr., and wife, Mabel, both of Dallas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg, Miss., with the pastoral staff at Highland Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral chapel beginning at 10:15 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park in Vicksburg.
Pallbearers will be A. Gary Boone, W. Edward Boone, Gregory W. Allen, W. Lloyd Overdyke Jr., Edward R. Budd and Nicholas W. Budd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church, Vicksburg or The Providence House, Shreveport, La.
Edward L. Clark Jr.
Edward L. Clark Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at his home. He was 86.
Born in Pine Prairie, La., he had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1927. Mr. Clark attended Speed Street School and was a 1937 graduate of Carr Central High School. He served in Company B, 106th Engineers Battalion of Mississippi National Guard from 1937 until the Guard was federalized in 1940.
In World War II, Mr. Clark served in the Army, being assigned to the Engineer Aviation Construction Battalion building temporary landing fields. He was discharged from the military in 1946 with the rank of technical sergeant. He was a former co-owner of Ace Electric Company.
Mr. Clark was active in community organizations pertaining to the history of Vicksburg and Warren County. He was a longtime member of the 106th Engineers Association serving in all offices and was a past president of the Mississippi Antique Bottle Club. He was an active member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Board of Stewards and “chief electrician” for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward L. Clark Sr. and Capie Redwine Clark; a sister, Capie C. Polk; and a brother, Howard R. Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Mary R. Clark of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lou Clark Walsh of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary K. Clark Gaidos of Issaquah, Wash.; four grandchildren, Mary Lou Golisch and Daniel Edward Walsh, both of Jacksonville, and Chris Gaidos and Kevin Gaidos, both of Ellensburg, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby C. Meacham of Atlanta, Ga.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Ray Heffner, Jimmy Horn, Jim Horan, Ray McLaurin, Hugh Green, Joe Gay, Rodger Hopkins, Malcolm Antoine and George Cronia.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 106th Engineers Association, Russell Barnes, Richard Cowart, Dr. Briggs Hopson, Dr. Lee Humble, Dr. David Halinski and Dr. Russell Barnes.

Prentiss Lee Porter.
NEWELLTON – Prentiss Lee Porter died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, La. He was 77.
Mr. Porter was born in Gilbert, La., and had lived in Newellton most of his life. He was retired from the Louisiana State Wildlife and Fisheries. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Marie Porter of Newellton; five sons, Danny Porter of Phoenix, Ariz., Randall Porter of Baton Rouge, Wayne Porter of Austin, Texas, Sonny Thompson of Hobart, Ind., and Bobby Thompson of Lake Charles, La.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Todd Sumrall and J. Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Andy Barrett, Ralph Cooper, Charlie Colvin, Ed Britt and Harold McDaniel.
