St. Aloysius coach Clint Wilkerson has been hammering home the point of fundamental baseball.

On Tuesday night, the Flashes got a close look at what errors and mistakes can do as Bogue Chitto did its best to facilitate the Flashes’ 18-2 win at Bazinsky Field.

Bogue Chitto committed five first-inning errors and the Flashes rolled to 11 runs in the opening frame. BC recorded the first out of the game on a fly ball, then watched three straight infield errors, three walks, a hit batter and another error amount to a 6-0 Flashes’ lead.

&#8220You can look around the state and see teams losing games that shouldn’t be losing games and they are because of stupid mistakes,” Wilkerson said. &#8220We wanted to make a statement. No matter who we play, we will be playing solid fundamental baseball.”

Jordan Muirhead and Pierson Waring belted the Flashes’ first two RBI hits on their second at-bats in the first inning. Ryno Martin-Nez hit an RBI flyout, Tidwell smacked an RBI triple and Stephen Evans drove in the 11th run of the inning on a single. David Moak finally retired Lambert Culley to end the inning after 15 Flashes came to the plate.

The Flashes have been scoring at a impressive pace through three games this season. This was the third straight game the Flashes have scored at least 12 runs. The team lost 13-12 in the season-opener but since then have recorded two straight blowout wins, Tuesday’s over Bogue Chitto and last week’s 15-0 win over Raymond.

The pitching also has shined in the last two games. Senior Blake Tidwell pitched three strong innings Tuesday. He allowed two runs over three innings. He allowed three doubles, the only Bogue Chitto hits of the night.

The Bobcats scored a run in the top of the second before the Flashes responded again. John Robert Burnett led off the second with a walk and moved to third on a pair of groundouts. He scored on a passed ball and Jordan Muirhead blasted a home run to left field to give St. Al a 13-1 lead.

Bogue Chitto added another run in the third before the Flashes tacked on five in the bottom of the inning. Three singles, including Judson Gatling’s first varsity base hit, three errors and a hit batter provided the final margin.

Justin Rushing, a side-armed righty, retired the side in order in the top of the fourth ending the game by way of the mercy rule.

Muirhead, Tidwell and Stephen Evans each had two hits for the Flashes (2-1, 1-0 Division 7-1A). Steven Avants had a pair of doubles for the Bobcats.

Vicksburg 19, Greenville 0.

Steven Price pitched a four-inning perfect game and struck out 11 of 12 batters he faced as the Gators rolled to 5-0.

Vicksburg led only 1-0 going into the third inning, but a 12-run outburst put the game out of reach. Vicksburg added six more runs in the fourth.

Stanton Price, Vernon Wolfe and Steven Price each doubled and Stanley Bufkin had a triple to pace the Gators. Steven Price and Jordan Henry each had three hits.

Vicksburg is scheduled to host Greenville on Friday night at 7.
