The body of an Eagle Lake man was pulled from the lake Sunday after onlookers saw his overturned boat near the shoreline, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.
Authorities have yet to determine whether George “Tom” Chaney, 56, 452 Caravaine Circle, drowned, Pace said. The boat overturned near a private boat ramp and Chaney’s body was found near the shore, he said. The body had been pulled from the water before the emergency call to dispatchers at 5:14 p.m.
“It’s unclear whether he had some medical condition that may have contributed to his death or whether it was an accidental drowning,” Pace said. “There’s no sign of foul play.”
An autopsy will be conducted either today or Tuesday at Mississippi Mortuary Services in Pearl, said Warren County Coroner John Thomason.
Chaney had no known Vicksburg relatives, said Pace, who added he believed friends were trying to contact relatives in Arkansas on Sunday night.
