A Port Gibson man turned himself into Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department officials and was said to be the shooter.

Carl Brandon, 53, no address available, was being held in the killing, authorities of the both the police department and sheriff’s department said.

Police said Brandon waited for Burrell in an SUV outside the law office of Drake and Burrell at 710 Market St. with a 12-gauge shotgun. After he fired a fatal shot, he proceeded to the home of Claiborne County administrator James Miller and fired a shot into the house, police said. No one was injured there.

Police said Brandon then went into the county barn on Mississippi 18 and fired a shot that struck Loreasa Porter, a secretary for the county road department. Porter was airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson and was in stable condition, police said.

Brandon is believed to be a former employee of the Claiborne County road department.

Burrell was board attorney for the Claiborne County Board of Supervisors.
