Elma Lanore Boatman died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 41.

Born in Washington, Ind., Mrs. Boatman had lived in Vicksburg since 1973. A medical records analyst for The Street Clinic, she was formerly employed with Kid’s Connection for three years. She attended Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James B. Tanner; and a sister, Nora A. Kranzman.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn A. Boatman Sr. of Vicksburg; one son, Glenn A. Boatman Jr. of Vicksburg; her parents, Ruth and Robert Derryberry, both of Vicksburg; her maternal grandmother, Nora A. Tanner of Vicksburg; and one sister, Christina Creston of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. Chip Starnes and Ruth Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Elledge, Jason Derryberry, Danny Mitchell, Stan Collins, Justin Boatman, Neal Massey, Fran Crowley and Ray Boatman.

Elmer Jon Burchardt.

TALLULAH – Elmer Jon Burchardt died Saturday, April 1, 2006, in Tallulah. He was 87.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Burchardt had lived in Tallulah for 60 years and was an Army veteran of the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 100, Tallulah Masonic Lodge No. 308 and First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Caroline Burchardt; three sisters, Dorothea Meyers, Luella Anzono and Violet Kasper; and one brother, Howard Burchardt.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Ann Burchardt of Tallulah; one daughter, Carolyn Jonette Burchardt of Tallulah; one son, William Frederick Burchardt of Richardson, Texas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Tallulah with the Revs. Jean Foreman and Ramon Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Laughman, Joe K. Scott, Matt Gregory, Donald Collins, Rusty Peterson and Randy Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Earl Martin and Charles Michael Finlayson.

Frances Clarke Bettis Eiland.

TALLULAH – Services for Frances Clarke Bettis Eiland were today at Trinity Episcopal Church of Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah. The Rev. William J. Echols officiated.

Mrs. Eiland died Monday, April 3, 2006, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 88.

A lifetime resident of Tallulah, Mrs. Eiland was a homemaker and housewife. She was a member of Madison Parish Historical Society, Town and Country Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Herbert Eiland Sr.; one sister, Elizabeth Bettis Kincaid Parkerson; two sons, Dr. Edward Herbert Eiland Jr. and Stanton Bettis Eiland; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Calvin Adams, Bill Paxton, Robert Calvert, Jim Wilkerson, Kirk Morley and Dick Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Charles and George Weaver.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church of Tallulah.

Geneora Chambliss Hoffmann.

Geneora Chambliss Hoffmann died Sunday April 2, 2006, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 93.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Hoffmann was a retired domestic worker and member of Calvary M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hoffman; four brothers, David Chambliss, Claude Chambliss, A.B. Chambliss and Randolph Chambliss; and a sister, Annie Bell Felton.

Survivors include three brothers, Benard Chambliss of Fayette, Homer Chambliss of Los Angeles and Grover Chambliss Sr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Lula White of Fayette and Bessie Chambliss of Los Angeles; and other relatives, including the Martin family of Vicksburg.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

J.E. Jolly Jr.

TALLULAH – J.E. Jolly Jr. died Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Lexington, Texas. He was 77.

Born in Chase, La., Mr. Jolly had lived in Newellton and was a farmer.

Survivors include one son, Ron Jolly of Tuskegee, Ala.; two daughters, Donna Kaye Jolly and Tessie Jolly Freeman, both of Lexington, Texas; one brother, Bobby Jolly of Newellton; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Cemetery in Newellton, La.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Lingo, Joseph Freeman, Paul Freeman, James Glick, Ken Miller and Terral Haddox.

Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Jerry Rankin.

George B. Kerr.

George B. Kerr died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 85.

Mr. Kerr was born Aug., 1, 1920 in Crowley, La., to Wilbert Young Kerr and Willie Whitmire Kerr.

A graduate of Mississippi State University, Mr. Kerr was a retired civil engineer after retiring in 1980 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi River Commission. He served as a veteran for the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. He was a certified land surveyor, a fine Christian man, a wonderful father, and an understanding grandfather. He loved working in his garden and generously giving away what he grew, such as tomatoes, mustard greens, washed and ready to cook, and radishes for Don. He enjoyed playing dominoes anytime but thought we had too many desserts. The ladies would tell him you never have too many desserts. He loved Rowdy’s catfish, McAlister’s roast beef sandwiches and No. 60 at El Sombrero.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Grace Huffman Kerr; three brothers, James David, Byron and Wilbur; and two sisters, Lucille K. Hunt and Juanita K. Howard.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Larry Kerr and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Antrim Kerr, both of Scotts Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Virginia Kerr Morton and her husband, Don, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Carson, Ramsey and Gracelyn Kerr; and special friends including, Lois Waldbauer, Lucy Sessums, Jamie Martin, Bill and Louise Larsons, Faye Turner, Florence Amborn, Erdis Parker, Gwen and Earl Edris and the Domino Ladies.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at McCool Cemetery in McCool, Miss., with the Rev. Dural Ragsdale officiating. The Rev. Jim Hess and Dr. John McCall will assist. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Morton, Mac Osborn, Charles Keenum, Dale Huffman, Charles Poindexter, Joe Huffman, David Kerr, David Bane, Johnson Stevens, Morris Massey and Brian Sisson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hester Pitts, Rosalye and Fred Baldwin, Patty and David Baldwin, Marie and John Strange, Betty and George Cain, Beverly and Billy Ellis, Ida and Jimmy Waring, Dr. Bill Pierce, Mary Jourdan Ray and the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club.

Services for Carmen &#8220MaMaw” Pierce will be at 3 this afternoon at Fisher Funeral Home Funeral with the Rev. James Busby, pastor of Long Pines Baptist Church of Crowville, La., officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Pierce died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

She retired from Warren Central cafeteria after 21 years of service. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Lena Mae Clark Lewis. A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Pierce Sr., and a son, Rex Pierce Jr.

Survivors include a son, Robert Pierce of Vicksburg; a daughter, Shirley Pierce Gibbs of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, Renee Williams, Penny Worley, Ray Williams, Susan Benson, Chris Williams, R.H. Pierce, Anne Sellers and Robin McGee; two brothers, William Gordon Lewis of Vicksburg and James Lewis of Houston; and a sister, Ethel Sanders of Vicksburg; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Phillips, Johnny Sellers, Jodie Williams, Vicki Williams, Tecia Kurtz and Steven McGee.

Arnetta Squire.

Services for Arnetta &#8220Baby Sister” Squire will be at noon Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg with the Rev. Dennis J. Redden Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ms. Squire died Friday, March 31, 2006, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 56.

Born in Vicksburg, Ms. Squire was a member of the junior choir of Mount Pisgah M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Arnetta Jones Squire; her grandparents, Lucille and Murtis Copeland, and Henry Jones, and Willie Sr. and Betty Squire, and Jeraldine Spiller.

Survivors include her father, Albert Squire of Vicksburg; a brother, Albert Squire Jr. of Hyville, Md.; and a stepmother, Clara Mae Harris Squire of Vicksburg.
