Sarah Steen Gibson Haddox.

TALLULAH – Sarah Steen Gibson Haddox died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, as a result of an auto accident, at River Region Medical Center. She was 28.

Born and reared in Warren County, Mrs. Haddox had lived in Tallulah and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Vicksburg High School and attended Hinds Community College. She was a member of Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Howard C. Lawrence.

Survivors include her husband, Mitchell Haddox of Tallulah; two sons, Austin Gibson and Coty Mitchell Haddox, both of Tallulah; her parents, Leo Mark and Margie Steen, both of Vicksburg; maternal grandmother, Dorothy V. Lawrence; paternal grandparents, Leo and Rose Marie Steen, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Steen McLeod of Vicksburg; a nephew, Brennan McLeod of Vicksburg; a niece, Emma Grace McLeod of Vicksburg; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Sandra Haddox, both of Tallulah; sister-in-law and husband, Rhonda and Ronney Cobb, both of Tallulah.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Terrill Watson, Andy Vinning, Kevin Green, Robert Stutts, Ronney Cobb and Clay Ratcliff.

Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Mark Stanley.

Matthew Hudson.

Matthew Hudson died Friday, April 21, 2006, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 78.

A laborer and mechanic, Mr. Hudson was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hudson of Vicksburg; six sons, Lewis Hudson of Manassas, Va., Richard Hudson of Fort Washington, Md., Matthew Hudson Jr. and Freddie Hudson, both of Greenville, Joe Mack of Jackson and Robert Richardson of Detroit; three daughters, Patricia Cox and Cathy Hudson, both of Vicksburg, and Rosie Hudson of Florida; two brothers, Matthew Parker and Roosevelt Parker, both of Vicksburg; 36 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cool Springs M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Earl Tarver.

TALLULAH – Services for Robert Earl Tarver will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. John W. Rushing Officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Tarver died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, La. He was 59.

Born in Mangham, Mr. Tarver had lived in Tallulah most of his life. A welder-foreman at Ergon Inc., he was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya Tarver of Tallulah; two brothers, Norman R. Tarver and Carl L. Tarver, both of Tallulah; three sisters, Mary Westmoreland of Tallulah, Jean Stuart of Transylvania and Barbara Mathews of Natchitoches; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phil Thomason, Phillip Henson, John Welch, Loyd Moore, Kevin Munn and Todd Westmoreland. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Glass, Travis Russell, James Sumrall, Michael Stuart, Patrick Glass and Harold Murphy.

Harry Gilbert Thornton Jr.

Harry Gilbert Thornton Jr., age 83, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.

Mr. Thornton was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark. He later moved to Vicksburg with his family at the age of 16. After moving to Vicksburg, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served two years. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 18 and served four years. Most of his service was in the South Pacific, particularly on the Island of Peleieu.

Mr. Thornton was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 50 years. He taught Sunday school in the youth department and the adult men’s department. He also taught study courses and worked in vacation Bible school. For many years, he also served as music director for the church.

Mr. Thornton retired from R.G. LeTourneau Company in 1988, after 30 years of service.

A volunteer at Shady Lawn Nursing Home for many years, he played his guitar, sang for the residents and taught Bible classes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Gilbert Thornton Sr. and Lillie Flanagan Thornton; a brother, Howard Lee Thornton; two sisters, Nancy Thornton Conn and Carol Thornton Paris.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gladys Stephens Thornton of Vicksburg; a son, Ronald Lee Thornton of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. F. Gene Jacks officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Warnock, Ben Luckett, Ricky Pennington, Charles Houston, Shane Rowland and Shelton Nielson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men’s Sunday school class of Northside Baptist Church.

Memorials may be sent to Northside Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, Gideon’s International or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
