The lack of a quorum prevented the board of the Vicksburg Convention & Visitors Bureau from taking any official action Thursday in the first meeting since a management company was hired to operate the tourism agency.

A quorum requires the attendance of more than six members, the number present Thursday.

Attending were Tim Darden, Lamar Roberts, Patty Cappaert, Bobby Bailess, David Maggio and Bill Collins. Absent were Omar Nelson, Bobby Doyle, Bobbie Morrow and Jessica Williams, the four members opposed to hiring Compass Facility Management as executive director of the VCVB.

One position, a joint appointment by the City of Vicksburg and Warren County, remains vacant. That position has been open since March, when Jo Wilson of Wilsonwood Lodge resigned.

Darden announced that the board would meet a week from today to go over business that was unable to be discussed Thursday.

The VCVB was created by the Legislature as a freestanding agency in 1972 with its own funding via a 1 percent tourism tax. Past directors have been individuals. The decision to contract out management was made during a series of confrontational meetings that began in the fall and continued through January.
