Hunter, Doyle win top awards at WC banquet|[5/06/06]

A Southern Miss football signee and a girls basketball player that led Warren Central to the North State 5A tournament earned top honors at Thursday’s WC athletic banquet.
Chico Hunter earned the top boys athlete award, despite missing most of the football season and entire basketball season with injuries.
Hunter earned The Vicksburg Post Defensive Player of the Year and Basketball Player of the Year as a junior.
Amanda Doyle went from reserve to the team’s leader in one season, guiding the Lady Vikes to within one win of a trip to the Mississippi Coliseum. Doyle also played softball. She signed a scholarship to Southwest Communnity College.
Jonathan Ettinger earned the Eric Smith Memorial Scholarship for his play on the Vikings’ baseball team. Smith, a WC student and avid Viking baseball fan, died of cancer.
Parker White was the recipient of the Donald Oakes Scholarship for baseball. Kelly McGrath earned the Courtney Hubert Memorial Scholarship for girls soccer. Hubert and her younger sister, Erin, were killed in a car accident on Interstate 20. Anna Miller was chosen to received the Erin Hubert Scholarship for fast-pitch softball.
