Motorists are experiencing rough tracking when exiting Interstate 20 to some of Vicksburg’s most-traveled roadways, but the spots are expected to be smoothed by summer’s end.

With ramp resurfacing limited to the shoulders, sections of the middle of the pavement remain stripped of surfaces, often making for a bumpy ride.

Two such spots, near the base of the exits onto Indiana Avenue and Halls Ferry Road, can create situations that catch drivers by surprise.

MDOT Central District Commissioner Dick Hall acknowledged the difficulty in negotiating the exits, but assured the work to smooth out the rough spots at those exits will be completed before the work contract runs out at summer’s end.

&#8220Those are spots that sometimes have to be done by hand,” Hall said.

Crews with APAC Mississippi, Inc. plan to return to the highways this week to work on the final third of the overall resurfacing contract, Hall said.

As with the rest of the improvements to the Interstate system through Vicksburg, the work will take place at night so peak traffic is not affected.
