County trio earn 1st-team all-state nods|[5/18/06]

Three Warren County baseball players earned first-team all-state honors, while two others earned second team honors.

The selections for the Mississippi Baseball Coaches All-State Team were released on Wednesday.

Vicksburg’s Jordan Henry and Steven Price, along with Warren Central’s Nick Carson were tapped as first team selections on the Class 5A team.

WC’s Eric Douglas earned a second-team nod.

St. Aloysius senior Blake Tidwell earned second-team honors. He was the only Flashes’ senior on this year’s playoff team.

Henry led all Warren County hitters with a .539 average and was tied for the county lead with 11 doubles. The Ole Miss signee will join Douglas at the June 3 all-star game in Pearl.

Price finished second in the county with a .517 average. He also hit 11 doubles and drove in 28 runs. On the mound, he led the county with seven wins and struck out 45.

Carson roamed center field for the Vikings and hit six home runs. Carson also pitched for WC, amassing a 6-1 record.

Douglas led all hitters with nine home runs, five triples and 35 RBIs. He tied for the team lead with a .430 average.

Tidwell finished third in the county with a .491 average and 26 RBIs.
