School district to see changes in personnel|[5/20/06]

The 2006-2007 school year will bring 15 administrative changes in the Vicksburg Warren School District.

&#8220This will be a big year for administrative changes, but I’m confident in all the changes we’ve made,” said Superintendent James Price.

The turnover is caused by a domino effect of sorts. Three principals – two at elementary schools and one at a high school – are retiring next month. The open principal slots are being filled by administrators currently at other schools in the district, leaving other staff members to shift or move up to fill those slots.

&#8220We’ve been able to hire entirely from within the district except for one position,” Price said.

Filling principal slots, Pam Wilbanks will move from principal at Warren Junior High to Warren Central High, Wanda Fears will move from assistant principal at Vicksburg Intermediate to South Park Elementary and Janice Hatcher will move from assistant principal at Warren Central Intermediate to Sherman Avenue Elementary.

In return, Cedric Magee will move from principal at Redwood Elementary to principal at Warren Junior High, John Johnson will move from assistant principal at Warren Junior High to assistant principal at Vicksburg Intermediate; and Norman Powell will move from assistant director of ESEA for the district to assistant principal at Warren Central Intermediate.

Continuing the shift, Morgan Gates will move from assistant principal at Vicksburg High to principal at Redwood, and Tammy Burris, a fourth-grade teacher at Redwood, will be assistant principal at Warren Junior High. Dr. Gwen Reiber, who is leaving her position as headmistress of Porters Chapel Academy, will become assistant principal at Vicksburg High.

Other changes and promotions within the district will see Michael Winters, principal at Warren Central Intermediate, and Edward Wiggins, principal of Vicksburg Junior High, switch positions; Chris Perritt, a social studies teacher and boys’ basketball coach at Warren Central High will be assistant principal at the same school; and Tonya Magee, a fourth-grade teacher at Vicksburg Intermediate will be assistant principal at Sherman Avenue Elementary.

Dr. John Walls, assistant superintendent, will be promoted to deputy superintendent, and Debra Hullum, administrative assistant for the district, will be promoted to assistant superintendent. Butch Newman remains in the other assistant superintendent position.

All changes will take effect this summer.
