Opal P. Anderson-Smith.
Opal P. Anderson-Smith died Friday, May 26, 2006, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 72.
Mrs. Anderson-Smith was a native of Utica. She graduated from Carr Central High School and was the daughter of the late Cecil W. and Virginia Viola “Jennie” Reed Powers.
She retired from Waterways Experiment Station in 1991 as administrative officer in the Coastal Engineering Research Center after working for the Corps of Engineers for 40 years. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, where she served as president, vice president and service officer and held other offices. She was also a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal and its altar guild.
Mrs. Anderson-Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram Anderson-Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Anderson-Smith of Tucson, Ariz., and Karen Anderson-Smith of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal with the Rev. Michael Nation, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday in the Hall of the McInnis Parish Home.
Pallbearers will be Alec Womack, Robert McQuinn, Dick Ferguson, Rusty Henderson, Clark McNair, Gene Chatham, Charles Calhoun and Dr. James Houston.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Shappley Jr., Steve Wagner, John George, Raymond Henderson, Clifton Reed Jr., Yoshinobu Namihira, Tom Pokrefke, Walter Wylie, Freddie Abraham, Durwood Graham, Gerald Barrett, Jere Andrews, Howard Benson, Mike Jackson, Martin Pace, Dr. Martin Newcomb, Dr. David Wahl, Dr. Robert Whalin and the Steel Magnolias Luncheon Guild.
Donald Keith Crawley.
Donald Keith “Don” Crawley died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 51.
Mr. Crawley was a native of LaMesa, Calif., and lived in California, Oklahoma and Greenville for many years. He had lived in Vicksburg for the past 22 years. He attended First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. He was a graduate from Greenville Christian School and Delta State University with a master’s in environment science biology and chemistry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ray Crawley and Dorothy Jeanette Crawley.
Mr. Crawley enjoyed hunting, fishing, history and enjoyed shooting guns and the Sharps rifle. He was an environmental specialist at Entergy Operation’s Grand Gulf Nuclear Station for nearly 20 years. He provided environmental oversight at the facility, administered air and water quality monitoring programs and provided regulatory interface with state and federal agencies. His extensive knowledge and his tenure at the facility gave him a unique and invaluable perspective with regard to evaluating activities for potential environmental impact.
Mr. Crawley is survived by his wife, Susan Bailey Crawley of Vicksburg; a son, James Donald Crawley of Vicksburg; a daughter, Betsy Jeanette Crawley of Vicksburg; a mother-in-law, Sue Bailey of Greenville; and two sisters, Linda Crawley and Jan Crawley, both of Dallas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Chapel in Vicksburg with Dr. Matt Buckley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Gay, Buck Taylor, Scott Swillie, Glen Rhett, Rusty Shaw and Roger Tolbert.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bryant, Jon Lassette, Dr. Dan Edney and Ricky Buckley.
Catherine Covington Davis.
Catherine Covington Davis died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 74.
Mrs. Davis was a native of Greensboro, N.C., and a graduate of Greensboro College with a bachelor of arts degree.
She was employed for four years as an elementary school teacher with Greensboro City Schools and for 20 years in the Vicksburg and Warren schools. She was a member of Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary and the Green Hills Garden Club. She was also a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Ruffin Sledge Davis of Vicksburg; two daughters, Catherine Davis Shouse of Birmingham and Minor Davis Ray of Savannah, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Godfrey, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
