Alexander Alford Batton Jr.

PORT GIBSON – Alexander Alford Batton Jr., 60, died June 3, 2006, at his home in Port Gibson. Visitation will be held tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home, Port Gibson, from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Port Gibson.

A lifelong resident of Port Gibson, Alex was born in 1945. He graduated from Port Gibson High School in 1963. He received a B.S. in 1967 from Presbyterian College, Clinton, S.C., where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He received an M.B.A. from the University of Mississippi and was a graduate of the LSU School of Banking.

Alex worked at Deposit Guaranty Bank in Jackson, Miss., before returning to his hometown of Port Gibson to work at RiverHills Bank (formerly Port Gibson Bank). After working for 32 years, he retired as executive vice president in 2005.

Alex was very active in his community. He was a graduate of Leadership Mississippi. He served on the Mississippi Economic Council Board of Directors, 1999-2002, and Board of Governors, 2003-2006. Alex was an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson. He was on the Board of Directors of Mount Ararat Hunting Club and was a board member of the Port Gibson Chamber of Commerce, where he served as treasurer for several terms. Alex served in the Mississippi National Guard.

Alex is survived by his wife, Marilyn Hankins Batton of Port Gibson; two daughters, Elizabeth Drake Batton of Jackson and Allison Batton Moreman of Lexington, Ky.; one son, Alexander Alford Batton III of Asheville, N.C.; one stepdaughter, April Lynn Scarcello of Lemoore, Calif.; and stepgrandchildren, Charles John and Samantha Grace Scarcello. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Drake Swoope of West Point.

The service will be officiated by the Rev. Michael Herrin. The pallbearers will be Mac Drake, Hank Drake, Bobby Fahee, Joe Drake, Mike Drake, Robert Gage and Russ Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Wilson, Benjamin Burrell, Matthew Burrell, Thomas Bell, Larry Hancock, James Hankins, Lt. Charles Scarcello and members of Mount Ararat Hunting Club.

Alex will be remembered best for his love and devotion to his family, friends and Claiborne County.

The family has requested that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson.

Robert Nathaniel Reddix Sr.

Services for Robert Nathaniel Reddix Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 until 7 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5 until 7.

Mr. Reddix died Friday, June 2, 2006, at his home. He was 61.

Mr. Reddix was a retired principal from the Vicksburg Warren School District and the Harrison County School District. He was a deacon at St. Paul M.B. Church.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Reddix of Vicksburg; two sons, Robert Reddix Jr. of Temple, Texas, and Rodney Reddix of LaPlace, La.; a stepdaughter, Jimitria Williams of Vicksburg; three sisters, Alice Teemer and Camille Lofton, both of Chicago, and Gertrude Reed of Georgia; one brother, Wilbur Reddix of Vancleave; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
