Beverly Rankins Armstead.
Beverly Rankins Armstead died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. She was 57.
Mrs. Armstead was a native of Warren County. She was employed at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Pascagoula. She was a former member of New Mount Zion M.B. Church.
A 1966 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School, she was a former secretary at Lucy C. Jefferson Junior High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Rosie Lee Smith Rankins; and her grandparents, Lawson and Nellie Smith and Johnnie Rankins.
Survivors include her husband, Ary Armstead of Pascagoula; two sisters, Velma R. Wilson and Patsy Speed, both of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.

Elbert W. Bryant.
Elbert W. Bryant died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.
Mr. Bryant was a native of Warren County and moved to Ruston, La., in 1974. He was a field sales manager for Austin Industries of Dallas from 1953 until his retirement in 1987, when he moved to Starkville. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva “Polly” Bryant of Starkville; one son, Michael Bryant of Vicksburg; two daughters, Betty Haymon of Milford, Del., and Kathy Pace of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Herman Kelly Bryant Sr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Hite of Vicksburg and Judy Hallberg of Winchester, Ky.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Derrick Deon Collins.
Derrick Deon Collins died Monday, June 12, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 21.
A Vicksburg native, Mr. Collins was a 2004 graduate of Warren Central High School. He was serving in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Cool Spring M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John A. Collins Jr.; and his paternal grandfather, Pete Smith.
Survivors include his mother, Annie E. Collins of Woodbridge, Va.; his father, Kenneth Jolly of Vicksburg; one sister, Andra Collins of Woodbridge; his maternal grandmother, Sylvia W. Collins of Vicksburg; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Smith of Vicksburg; and aunts and uncles.

William Douglas Jr.
William “Doug” Douglas Jr. died this morning, June 13, 2006, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 52.
Mr. Douglas was a nationally known bassist.
Survivors include his wife, Evangelist Geneva Jones Douglas of Vicksburg; a daughter, Alexis Smith of Vicksburg; three sons, Frederick Douglas of Vicksburg, Robert Douglas of Nashville and Cedrick Douglas of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Catina Jones and Ola Jones Henderson, both of Vicksburg; four stepsons, Roderick Williams Sr., Arlo Jones and Robert Jones Jr., all of Vicksburg, and Capt. Gifford Jones of Enterprise, Ala.; three sisters, Pearl Walker of Jackson, Debra Wheaton and Annie Lee Jones, both of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Fred Hall Hudson of Vicksburg.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Guadalupe Hernandez.
TALLULAH – Guadalupe Hernandez died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. He was 79.
Mr. Hernandez was a resident of Tallulah.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Zacharias Prakuzhy officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence.
Visitation will be until 9 tonight, along with a rosary at 7, at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.
Dick Palermo.
Dick Palermo died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at his residence. He was 74.
Born in Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Palermo and Elaine Andress Palermo. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School, class of 1950.
Mr. Palermo received his bachelor of science degree at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and attended the University of Rome in Rome, Italy. He received his degree in pharmacy from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Mr. Palermo was first associated with Corner Drug Store, later owned Palermo Pharmacy and retired from K&B Drugs in 1994. He taught fifth- and sixth-grade classes at St. Aloysius High School and taught biology at All Saints’.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Palermo.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Nell Finane Palermo of Vicksburg; three daughters, Terry Palermo Sturdyvin and her husband, Mike, of Champaign, Ill., and Donna Palermo Butler and her husband, Roger, and Cathey Palermo Ludke and her husband, Mark, all of Vicksburg; one son, Rickey Palermo and his wife, Shelia, of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren, Hallie and Jessie Sturdyvin, Matthew and Noel Butler, Hannah Ludke and Samantha Frith.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home.

Interment services will be private.
