A Vicksburg woman who would have celebrated her 34th birthday today was killed Tuesday night when the car she was driving hit a culvert and overturned on Gibson Road.

Betty Joe &#8220Josie” Hicks Hilderbrand, 33, 4407 Halls Ferry Road Lot 10, was heading east on Gibson Road near Rollingwood Estates at 10:31 when she left the road, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

&#8220It appears that she left the roadway and went into a ditch on the south side of the road and struck a driveway culvert,” Pace said. &#8220The impact appeared to have caused the vehicle to overturn. She was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected as the car flipped. The vehicle actually came to rest partially atop the victim.”

Pace said several residents had removed Hilderbrand’s 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and were &#8220holding it until paramedics arrived several minutes later, but they were unable to revive her.”

Warren County Coroner John Thomason said an autopsy was scheduled for tonight at Mississippi Mortuary Services in Pearl.

Hilderbrand was the mother of two children, 14-year-old Lacey Alexandria Williams and James Sadler Hilderbrand, whose 2nd birthday is Thursday.

Hilderbrand worked in Warren County Chancery Court Clerk Dot McGee’s office.

Contacted this morning, McGee said, &#8220Say good things about her; she was a good girl.”

Thomason said he knew her through his work in the courthouse.

&#8220She was just 33 years old. These things are real tragic anyway, but it’s especially tragic when you know them,” he said.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The accident was the sixth fatal wreck in Warren County in 2006. The most recent was May 31, when Savanah Mignon Belgard, 19, 277 Rolling Hills Blvd., Florence, died after her car was hit by an 18-wheeler on U.S. 61 North and Bowie Road.
