The three Warren County all-stars for Saturday’s Mississippi Association of Coaches girls soccer game have known each other since kindergarten.

They’ll be together again on the same North All-Star team in the 11th annual game at Hinds Community College in Raymond. The girls’ match begins at 11 a.m. followed by the boys at 1 p.m.

&#8220We’ve grown up together,” said Andrea Harrison, the Vicksburg Post’s 2006 Player of the Year and a Mississippi State University signee. &#8220I‘ve known both Mallory (Wells) and Beverley (Simmons) since kindergartern at St. Al. Then Beverley went to Vicksburg in seventh-grade and Mallory went to Warren Central in eighth-grade.

&#8220We were best friends through elementary school. We’ve had a lot of drama,” Harrison said.

Despite going to schools that are fierce rivals, especially in boys and girls soccer, Wells and Simmons remain best friends.

&#8220Before every Vicksburg game, coach (Kristin) Gough would tell me, ‘do not look at Beverley,’” Wells said. &#8220Coach Gough knew once I saw her I’d start laughing and trying to goof off.”

Fortunately for Gough, the two friends were on opposite ends of the field. Simmons was Vicksburg’s sweeper and a pretty good one at that. Wells played defensive half-back.

&#8220Only one time did we get close to each other in a game and that was because Beverley came up across midfield. I just told Mary Clare (Scurria) to go get her. I couldn’t. She’s my best friend and I’d just laugh at her,” Wells said.

During her junior high years, Wells spent time in Oak Mountain, Ala., near Birmingham, and at Madison Central. Her connection to the Lady Jaguars prompted Wells to get pulled in one later meeting against the Lady Vikes.

&#8220Coach Gough pulled both me and Mary Clare out of game with Madison Central because we were goofing off, just dancing around with the Madison girls. Coach Gough got so mad at us,” Wells said.

There was little goofing off when the opponent was the Missy Gators.

&#8220My 10th grade year was the year seven of us went to the hospital and I tore my MCL (knee ligament),” Wells said.

&#8220Six of theirs and one of ours went,” Simmons said. &#8220It was bad. Mallory’s mom got mad at me because it looked like I was clapping when Mallory went down, but I wasn’t. I was really worried about her, because I knew she was hurt bad.”

The last meeting was another rough affair as Vicksburg kept its playoff string alive and knocked the Lady Vikes out of the 5A playoffs with a 3-1 win at Memorial Stadium.

&#8220Other than Mallory and Mary Clare, I don’t speak to their players,” Simmons said. &#8220Sometimes, they are some hard feelings out there.

Harrison plays right-mid for the United. At St. Al, she was a center and for three straight years led the county in goals scored. She finished her prep career with 98 goals.

Simmons and Wells do not play for a select team but will continue on together at Hinds.

&#8220I haven’t played a game since Murrah,” Wells said.

&#8220Clinton, the playoffs,” Simmons answered.

The boys‘ match will feature Warren Central player Rusty Waites and ex-WC coach Jay Harrison, who is now the head coach at Madison Central. He will be assisted by Columbus High coach Josh Harper, who used to coach at Vicksburg High.
