Max Allen Holdiness.
Max Allen Holdiness died Friday, June 23, 2006, at his home. He was 74.
Mr. Holdiness was a native of Fernspring, Miss., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1965. He was the son of the late Sam Henry and Annie Vaughn Holdiness.
He had worked for Vicksburg Chemical Co., as a security officer for 17 years, worked for the City of Vicksburg as a foreman in the water department for 10 years and was owner/operator of Holdiness Grocery Store for eight years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mavis Holdiness; a daughter, Sinda Hollowell; four brothers, James H. Holdiness, John Holdiness, Robert Holdiness and Bill Holdiness; and a sister, Eva Mae Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Elaine Holdiness of Vicksburg; two sons, Roger Holdiness of Vicksburg and Dale Holdiness of Clinton; two daughters, Peggy Wright and Lisa Buchanan, both of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Ricky Holdiness and Mark Holdiness, both of Vicksburg; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, J.W. Holdiness of Vicksburg, Junior Holdiness of Louisville and Kellis Holdiness of Preston; and three sisters, Doris Reed of Preston, Fay Gregory of Louisville and Mamie Cook of Heidelberg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Hollowell, Michael Hollowell, John McMillian, Chris Holdiness, Kevin Wright, Kyle Whitehead, Tony Worthy and David White.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Ryan Buchanan, Bobby McMillian, Dr. Paul Pierce, Jeff Riggs, Bruce Hollowell, John Heggins, Jeff Bass Jr., Billy Gene Wright, J.J. Kight, John Elfer, Bo McLeod and Sheriff Martin Pace.

Jamie Speck Latham.
MACON – Jamie Speck Latham died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon. She was 81.
Mrs. Latham was born in New Albany to James Doyle and Nimmie Sloan Speck. She graduated from New Albany High School. She was employed by Merchants and Farmers Bank in Macon from 1956 until her death.
Mrs. Latham was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Renewal Sunday School class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Latham; and four sisters, Dorothy Soileau, Odie Rogers, Ozella Speck and Edith Greer.
She is survived by two sons, James Wesley Latham Jr. of Cleveland and Robert “Bob” Sloan Latham of Vicksburg; a sister, Jenny Sue Ausborn of Amory; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Macon with the Rev. Andy Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Glenfield Cemetery in New Albany.
Visitation will be from noon Monday until the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon has charge of arrangements.

Geraldine Harding Samuell.
Geraldine Harding Samuell died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.
Mrs. Samuell was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Willie Brewer Harding.
She was an Eastern Star and a member of the Women’s Moose Organization. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert “Buddy” Samuell of Vicksburg; a daughter, Star Varnell of Vicksburg; two sons, Robert J. Samuell Jr. of Greenville and Lee Roy Samuell of Clarksville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. Terry White and Dural Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Auburn Medders, C.B. Medders, Johnny Allen Medders, Clyde Couey, Victor “Vickie” Couey and Tommy Couey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert S. Walker, Lee Walker, Lee Roy Samuell Jr., Scott Samuell, Keith Samuell, Tony Samuell, Mark Samuell and Robert C. Samuell.
