Sgt. Jimmy M. Horn Jr.

Sgt. Jimmy &#8220Jay” M. Horn Jr. died June 18, 2006, at University of California Medical Center in Orange, Calif. He was 25.

Sgt. Horn was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 22, 1980. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1998. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Jay was a veteran of one tour of duty in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and two tours of duty in Iraq. He also served tours in Japan, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Thailand and South Korea.

A military service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. He will be recognized with full military honors. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Sylvarena Baptist Church, 1119 Old Sylvarena Road, in Wesson, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Gaye Miller; and his great-grandmother, Nora Mae Welter Myers.

Jay is survived by his wife, Megan Horn of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; his mother and stepfather, Gina and Eddie Pettis of Vicksburg; his father and stepmother; Jimmy and Misse Horn of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Kelli Green and Jessica Pettis, both of Vicksburg, and Kortney Horn of Mamou, La.; a brother, Eddie Pettis of Lafayette, Ind.; a nephew, Brayden Green; two nieces, Reese Green and Elizabeth Curry; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller of Wesson and Margaret Collins, Virgie Nevels and William Horn, all of Vicksburg, and Daniel Hoffpauir of Mamou; his lifelong friend, Brad Tonquis of Denham Springs, La.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Sylvarena Baptist Church, 1119 Old Sylvarena Road, Wesson, MS 39191.

Pauline Bruce Johnson.

Services for Pauline Bruce &#8220P.J.” Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Friday at The House of Peace Worship Church with Pastor Linda Sweezer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Friday until the hour of service at the church.

Ms. Johnson died Friday, June 23, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 60.

A graduate of Temple High School, Ms. Johnson had lived in Vicksburg for 40 years and was a retired cook.

She was on the transportation, hospitality and intercessory ministries at House of Peace Worship Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Anna Tillman Bruce.

She is survived by three sisters, Katherine Price, Phala Nuckolls and Mamie Hunter, all of Kankakee, Ill.; and other relatives, including Dorothy and John Shelby of Vicksburg.

Florence Lee Moore.

EDWARDS – Florence Lee Moore died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 64.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Curaesee Moore; four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a son, Alfonso L. Moore of Edwards; three brothers, Christopher Moore of Biloxi, Lorenzo Moore of Gardenia, Calif., and Leonard Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; and two sisters, Ernestine Moore Haley of Hawaii and Carolyn Moore Renee’ of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ratliff Chapel M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Little Zion Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Family hour will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Louise P. Middleton.

Louise P. Middleton died Monday, June 26, 2006, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was 83.

Born in Lake Providence, Mrs. Middleton was the daughter of the late Thomas Shoffner Potter and Nora Clyde Millsaps Potter. She was a graduate of Lake Providence High School in the class of 1939.

A resident of Vicksburg since 1941, she completed her nurse’s training at the Street Sanitarium. Mrs. Middleton was a nurse for Dr. J.A.K. Birchett until his death in 1972, and afterwards for Dr. Gene Walker until her retirement in 1974 from The Street Clinic. She served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion, past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and past president of the Elks Lodge DOES Auxiliary.

Mrs. Middleton was a member of the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, I.B. &#8220Buddy” Middleton Jr.; and two brothers, William Thomas Potter and Jack Potter.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Sue Roberts and her husband, Wayne, of Vicksburg; two sons, Bobby Middleton and his wife, Judy, of Ridgeland and Alan Middleton and his wife, Roselynn, of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Kristin Peoples, Kelli Peoples, Wayne Roberts Jr., Robyn Montgomery and Matt Middleton; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha P. Dunn of Ridgeland; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Young of New Smyrna, Fla., and Shirley Potter of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her caretaker and friend, Ethel Ruth Gardner of Vicksburg.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Reggie Crawford and Wade Hammack officiating. Burial was at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation was from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Joe Gay, Gene Abbott, Robert Abbott, Ric Bowlin, John Gwaltney, Johnny Peoples and Jay Peoples.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Walden, Clyde Redmon, Russell Barnes, Rhea Fuller, Chestley Nash, Jordan Henry, Tanner Woodson, Dr. Eugene Ferris, Dr. Joseph Wilson, Dr. Jimmy Jones, Dr. Gene Walker, Dr. Abdul Bahro, Phares Griffin, Bill Brown, Justin Henry, Tommy Lee Middleton and Calvin Seyfarth.

Rosa Anna Gibson Smith.

DeRIDDER, La. – Services for Rosa Anna Gibson Smith will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Standfield New Life Christian Church with Dr. Charles Queen officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 this evening at Williams Funeral Service and Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Smith died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Triumph North Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was 47.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Smith lived in DeRidder for 13 years as a retired accountant. She was a member of IDF Church of the Living God, where she served as prayer minister, Sunday school teacher and prayer worship team leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Gibson Jr. and Ruby Lee Gibson.

She is survived by two sons, Aaron Wade Smith of Little Rock, Ark., and Stephen Gerald Smith of Spring, Texas; a daughter, Courtney Michelle Smith of DeRidder; five brothers, George F. Gibson of Elmont, N.Y., Clarence Gibson of Fayetteville, N.C., Harold L. Gibson of Columbus, Ohio, Anthony Gibson of Vicksburg and Joseph Tillman of Brandon; five sisters, Arie G. Prejean of Spring, Nada Gibson Sykes, Jerre Gibson Sims and Ruby J. Gibson-Smith, all of Vicksburg, and Renee Tillman of Florence; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
