Ricky Leshea Davis Sr.

ANGUILLA – Ricky Leshea Davis Sr. died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 45.

Mr. Davis was born in Hollandale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Annie Lee Davis.

He is survived by six daughters, Racquelle Edwards and Rachelle Sims, both of Richmond, Calif., Shannon Davis of Richland, Sharissa Robinson of Meridian, Ashley Johnson and Jessica Johnson, both of Anguilla; a son, Ricky Davis Jr. of Jackson; two sisters, Diane Davis and Mary Davis, both of Anguilla; five brothers, Harry Smith of Huntsville, Ala., Jimmie Davis, James Davis and Percy Davis, all of Anguilla, and Howard Barfield of Rolling Fork; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla with the Rev. Ollie Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Cynthia Diana Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home.

Sgt. Jimmy M. Horn Jr.

Sgt. Jimmy &#8220Jay” M. Horn Jr. died June 18, 2006, at University of California Medical Center in Orange, Calif. He was 25.

Sgt. Horn was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 22, 1980. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1998. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Jay was a veteran of one tour of duty in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and two tours of duty in Iraq. He also served tours in Japan, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Thailand and South Korea.

A military service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. He will be recognized with full military honors. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Sylvarena Baptist Church, 1119 Old Sylvarena Road, in Wesson, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Gaye Miller; and his great-grandmother, Nora Mae Welter Myers.

Jay is survived by his wife, Megan Horn of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; his mother and stepfather, Gina and Eddie Pettis of Vicksburg; his father and stepmother; Jimmy and Misse Horn of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Kelli Green and Jessica Pettis, both of Vicksburg, and Kortney Horn of Mamou, La.; a brother, Eddie Pettis of Lafayette, Ind.; a nephew, Brayden Green; two nieces, Reese Green and Elizabeth Curry; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller of Wesson and Margaret Collins, Virgie Nevels and William Horn, all of Vicksburg, and Daniel Hoffpauir of Mamou; his lifelong friend, Brad Tonquis of Denham Springs, La.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Sylvarena Baptist Church, 1119 Old Sylvarena Road, Wesson, MS 39191.

Larry Mehlhaff.

SALT LAKE CITY – Larry Mehlhaff, dedicated conservationist, was born June 9, 1957, and died of brain cancer June 21, 2006. He graduated from high school in Freeman, S.D., and from the University of Northern Colorado. He was an organizer for the Colorado Open Space Council and began employment with the Sierra Club in 1984. In 1990, he married Marion Klaus.

Larry was a man with a cause and skills to turn those causes into reality. Larry organized the campaign to get Harmon Killebrew into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He helped organize the passage of the Wyoming Wilderness Act, assisted wilderness and wild river campaigns in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, and organized a 10-state campaign for the wild lands of the Louisiana Purchase Territory.

In 2006, Larry won the Sierra Club’s highest award, the John Muir Award.

&#8220Larry has spent his life speaking for the prairies, mountains and wildlife with passion and good cheer. More importantly, he inspired others to join that work. There are rivers and lands that are protected for generations to come because Larry was there for them,” said Executive Director Carl Pope.

A new award, the Larry Mehlhaff Staff Excellence Award, has been initiated by the Sierra Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Mehlhaff.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Elaine Mehlhaff; his sister, Judy (Roger) Bertsch; his nephews, Christopher and Cory Bertsch; and his double cousins, Bruce (Sherry) Dewald, Barbara Dewald and Brian (Londa) Dewald.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. July 15 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.

Tanner Harrison Lee Page.

Tanner Harrison Lee Page, infant son of Jason &#8220Bug” Page and Johnalin Hicks Page died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Coy Harrison Hicks; paternal great-grandfathers, Sylvester Howell and George McCoy; and paternal great-grandparents, James and Ellie Page.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Dakota David Lee Page of Kosciusko; maternal grandparents, John Hicks and Maxine Hicks of Vicksburg; paternal grandparents, Frank and Lisa Page of Yazoo City and James and Debra Hartley of Vicksburg; maternal great-grandparents Elma Hicks of Vicksburg and Max H. Watson and Merle Watson of Cary; and paternal great-grandparent, Claudine McCoy of Vicksburg.

Janell Palmer.

Janell Palmer died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 71.

A native of Pulaski, Mrs. Palmer had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 35 years. She was retired from Rite-Aid Drug Store and was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Palmer; and a son, Brent Palmer.

She is survived by two daughters, Carla Palmer of Hattiesburg and Pam Fason of Conway, Ark.; one brother, Bennie Stevens of Liberty; one sister, Bess Mathis of Pascagoula; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Rauel Saldana.

TALLULAH – Rauel Saldana died Tuesday, June 27, 2006. He was 35.

Mr. Saldana was born in Monroe and had lived in Madison Parish most of his life. He served in the Navy and was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah.

He worked as a casino poker dealer.

Survivors include his mother, Elena Saldana of Tallulah; seven brothers, Gregorio Saldana, Felipe Saldana and Santiago Saldana, all of Tallulah, Miguel Saldana of Vicksburg, Julian Saldana of Baker, La., Benito Saldana of Port Barre, La., and Valente Saldana of Opelousas, La.; two sisters, Adelita Rodriguez of Opelousas and Lenor Self of Denham Springs, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Saldana’s brothers will serve as pallbearers.

Robert Lee Williams Jr.

CONNELL, Wash. – Robert Lee Williams Jr. died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, Wash. He was 36.

A former resident of Rolling Fork, Mr. Williams was a cosmetologist and correctional officer.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Lee Jackson of Ames, Iowa, and Rebecca Williams of Rolling Fork; his wife, Anoula Williams of Connell; two sons, Robert Lee Williams III of Greenville, N.C., and Xyrus Jyle Williams of Connell; a daughter, ABCDE Jyln Williams of Connell; three brothers, Daniel Earl Williams of Portland, Ore., Anthony Williams of Rolling Fork and Johnny Williams of Marshall, Texas; three sisters, Alexia Williams and Theretha Floweres, both of Greenville, and Brenda Bankhead of Jackson; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Revs. Howard Moncrief and Elijah Eason officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Church of God.
