Major Cameron Jr.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Major Cameron Jr. died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He was 61.
A 1962 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School, Mr. Cameron was an Air Force veteran. He was a taxi cab driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Ruby Cameron Sr.; and a brother, Donald A. Cameron.
He is survived by his wife, Everette Cameron of Washington; a son, Major Cameron III of Washington; two brothers, Robert Cameron of Washington and Cecil Cameron of Vicksburg; three sisters, Shirley Henry and Cecilia Cole, both of Vicksburg, and Delores Cameron Wells of Culver City, Calif.; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Koryelle Cameron, and members of the Hall, Davis and Broadway families.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Way of Cross Church of Christ in Washington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at the church.
Hunts Funeral Home, located on 905 Kennedy St., Northwest, Washington, has charge of arrangements.
Robert Heard.
DETROIT – Robert Heard died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Henry Ford Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Heard was a resident of Detroit. He was a retired heavy-equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Celeste Priestly Heard; and his parents, Rally and Rosie Heard of Memphis.
Survivors include seven sons, Larry Heard, Carl Heard and Charles Heard, all of Vicksburg, Randy Heard and Andrew Heard, both of Detroit, Bryan Heard of Chicago and Todd Heard of Dallas, Texas; four daughters, Frances Bryant of Baltimore, Md., Tammi Hansbrough of Las Vegas, Stephanie Cage of Detroit and Rochelle Heard of Vicksburg; 36 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and friends, including Annie Keith of Detroit.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wilson-Akins Funeral Home in Detroit.
Ethel Mae Lewis Sanders.
Ethel Mae Lewis Sanders died Tuesday July 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.
A native of Warren County, Mrs. Sanders was a former resident of Yazoo County and had lived in Vicksburg for nine years. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Lena Mae Clarke Lewis. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Haze Sanders; two sons-in-law, James Boyd and Roger Rushing; two brothers, Guy Lewis Sr. and Leon Lewis; and a sister, Carmen Pierce.
She is survived by five daughters, Bettie Boyd of Vicksburg, Alice Stevens and husband, James, of Vicksburg, Jo Rushing of McComb, Nita Wigley of Vicksburg and Debbie O’Neal of Jackson; 11 grandchildren, Cheryl Boyd Van Norman, Jimmy Boyd, Forrest Boyd, Calvin Stevens, the Rev. Billy Stevens, Susan Stevens Stong, Jimmy R. Rushing, Michael Wigley, Kim W. Saxton, Wendy Flatt and Brandy Davis; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, William Gordon Lewis of Vicksburg and James H. Lewis of New Caney, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W. Ricky Dorrell of Church of God of Prophecy officiating. Burial will follow at noon Friday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Satartia, Miss. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Pierce, Guy Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Howard Lewis, Johnny Lewis and Herbert Bond.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

Evelyn Mae Simmons.
Evelyn Mae “Mama Eve” Simmons died today, July 6, 2006, at Promise Specialty Hospital. She was 69.
Mrs. Simmons was a former New Orleans resident. She was a retired homemaker. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Spiritual Church in New Orleans, where she was a member of the mother board.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Williams Sr. and Olivia Taylor Williams; and her husband, the Rev. Clinton Simmons Sr.
She is survived by five sons, Clinton Simmons Jr. of Texas, Darryl E. Simmons of Vicksburg, Cassius C. Simmons of New Orleans, Dexter T. Simmons of Greenwood and Chris Simmons of Rockville, Md.; two daughters, Tondra Simmons of New Orleans and Drusilla S. Molere of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Tyrone Williams of New Orleans and Ronald Williams of Virginia; one sister, Eloise “Cookie” Williams of New Orleans; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
