Laura Alsworth Buchanan.

Laura Alsworth Buchanan died Friday, July 7, 2006, in Ridgeland, Miss. She was 79.

Mrs. Buchanan was born in Union Church, Miss. She was a graduate of United Vocational High School in Jefferson County and attended Belhaven College. She was an active Presbyterian, having taught Sunday School and serving on Women of the Church committees, including at Westminister Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Ethel Alsworth; her husband, Sam Henry Buchanan Sr.; and her sister, Mary Gold.

Survivors include her son, Sam Henry Buchanan Jr. of Ripley, Miss.; her daughter, Rebecca Buchanan Saenz of Madison, Miss.; four grandchildren; and one great-granchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland.

Burial will follow at Guide Cemetery in Guide, Miss. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
