Martha Ann Oakes Bass.
JACKSON – Martha Ann Oakes Bass died Monday, July 10, 2006, at her home in Jackson. She was 63.
Mrs. Bass was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vance L. Oakes Sr.; her mother, Mary Sue Gordon Oakes; a sister, Ruby June Oakes O’Donnell; and two brothers, Vance L. Oakes Jr. and Maurice Oakes.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Bass Sr.; four sons, Richard E. Bass Jr., Joseph Loring Bass, Andrew Preston Bass and Brian David Bass; and a sister, Norma Oakes Mayes; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Directors of Jackson with burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
James B. Cage.
REDWOOD – James B. “J.B.” Cage died Monday, July 10, 2006, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 90.
Mr. Cage was a native of Redwood. He was a self-employed farmer and construction worker and worked for Clifton Burroughs for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evans Cage; four sons, Aurther Lee Cage, Gene Cage, James Cage and Randy Cage; and one daughter, Betty Cage.
Survivors include two daughters, Willia Cage Smith of Pontiac, Mich., and Gloria Cage Williams of Redwood; four sons, Willie Cage of Redwood, Melvin Cage of Vicksburg, Richard Cage of Brooklyn, N.Y., and L.C. Cage of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Hattie Mae Richardson of Moss Point, Lauree Figures of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Sophronia Miller of Clarksdale; two brothers, Tommy Cage of Grand Rapids and W.C. Cage of Portland, Ore.; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Miller family of Vicksburg.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Rector Gentry Jr.
Rector Gentry Jr. died Monday, July 10, 2006, at his home. He was 79.
A native of Antoine, Ark., Mr. Gentry had been a Vicksburg resident since 1953. He was the son of the late Rector Albert and Beatrice Sturman Gentry. He worked as a bus driver for the Warren County Schools for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Gracie Gentry; two brothers, J.W. Gentry and Tommy A. Gentry; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Gladwell.
Survivors include six sons, Leon Gentry, James Gentry and Steve Gentry, all of Springdale, Ark., Rector John Gentry of Rogers, Ark., Tommy Gentry and Steve Gentry, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rachel Welch and Jeanette McCammon, both of Vicksburg; one sister, Geneva B. Staggs of Falls Church, Va.; one brother, Homer Wright Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Granberry officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Vince Welch, James Rone, B.J. Welch, Roger “Bubba” Miller, Bo McLeod and Bob Brasfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Harvey and Terry West.

Louise Marie Middlebrook Maxwell.
Louise Marie Middlebrook Maxwell – Loving Mother, Author, Retired Restaurant Owner, Angel and Friend.
Louise Marie Middlebrook Maxwell, 80, left to be with Frankie in Heaven Monday, July 10, 2006, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Church the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, 900 South St., Vicksburg, Miss. Visitation is Thursday at McInnis Parish House – Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal – from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Riles Funeral Home of Vicksburg is in charge of arrangements. Father David Elliott of St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson, Miss., anointed Louise on Saturday, July 8, 2006.
Born in Meridian, Miss., Louise graduated from Meridian High School in 1943 and attended Mississippi University for Women until her marriage to her loving husband, Frank Myers Maxwell, on April 2, 1948.
The greater part of Louise’s life was spent in Vicksburg as owner, operator and “Hostess with the Mostest” of Maxwell’s Restaurant. She loved the restaurant business and serving her friends, family and the so many visitors to Vicksburg that weren’t strangers after they met her. She was the quintessential hostess. While in Vicksburg, she was past president of both the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary and Women’s Auxiliary of Christ Episcopal Church, devotional chairman of St. Ann’s Group of Holy Trinity Episcopal, and member of the Town and Country Garden Club, Vicksburg Historical Society, Vicksburg Tourist Association, Vicksburg Restaurant Association, as well as the Mississippi Restaurant Association.
In 1990, Mama Louie and Frank retired and moved to Jackson to be closer to their grandchildren, Brittany and Coty. While in Jackson, Louise loved being a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church for years and recently moved to Christ United Methodist Church, where she really enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday school class. She was a volunteer for the Mississippi Art Museum for both the Spanish and Dresden exhibits; however, her most favorite times recently were spent with her friends at the Le Dejeuner and Continental Bridge clubs. She was active in the Hinds County Republican Women.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Myers Maxwell Sr. Survivors include one son, Frank Myers Maxwell Jr. of Jackson; one daughter and her husband, Darlinda Maxwell Baldinger and David S. Baldinger Sr. of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Angela Ch Loe Lawrence and her husband, Elliot Lawrence, of Denver, Colo., Brittany Anne Maxwell and Coty Justine Maxwell of Madison.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.
Pallbearers will be Stan Terry, Robert Terry, Joe Harris, Richard Waring, Mark Maxwell, Nyle Maxwell, Greg Maxwell and Garfield Wright.
