Miles Joseph Tickell died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 78.

Mr. Tickell was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was retired from Waterways Experiment Station as foreman of the pipe shop. He was a Navy Seabee during World War II and Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Tickell was a member of VFW Post No. 2572, American Legion Post No. 3 and Navy Seabee Historical Foundation. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elois Burns Tickell; a brother, George D. Tickell Jr.; and a sister, Martha Francis Swinney.

He is survived by his wife, Lida Strickland Tickell of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sylvia Tickell Wren and her husband, John Wren of Madison; a granddaughter, Nicole Marie Toney and her husband, Scott Toney of Knoxville; a brother, Talbott Tickell of Mobile; two sisters, Elois Wall of Reston, Va., and Libby Mann of Mobile; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Patrick Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Shelby Price Jr., Douglas Beard, Shelby Price Sr., Jackie Hude, George Edward Hude, J.V. Teague and Brent Greer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jimmy Vessell, David Gibson, John Rundell, Louis A. Nichols, Claude Neese, Frank Uzzell, Pete Mann, Vincent Bonelli, American Legion Post No. 3 and Seabee Historical Foundation.
