Manuel A. Applebaum.
Manuel A. Applebaum died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at his home at Belmont Gardens. He was 90.
Born in Lexington, Miss., Mr. Applebaum was the son of the late Sol Applebaum and Agathyne Kern Applebaum. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He was employed by Jacques Levy and Company and later owned Applebaum Business Machines. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Cowboy Maloney’s Electric City and Bluff Janitor Supply Company. He was a member of Anshe Chesed Congregation.
He is survived by a niece, Betty Ann Berlin of Germantown, Tenn.; two nephews, Herman Applebaum and Sol Applebaum, both of Baton Rouge; and other relatives.
Services will be at 3 today in Oddfellows Cemetery in Lexington under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Temple Anshe Chesed, Jane Wendrow, 260 Lakewood Road, Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to Hadassah, Zenia Revitz, 1000 Murray Hill Lane No. 403, Memphis, TN 38120.

ANGUILLA – Ernie M. Green died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 42.
He is survived by a wife, Barbara Ann Green of Anguilla; a stepfather, James Scott of Anguilla; three sons, Earnest Dunison of Delta City and Karell McCoy and Lewis McCoy, both of Anguilla; a daughter, Requinta McCoy of Milwaukee; three brothers, James Michael Weatherspoon of Anguilla, Matellas Powell of Killeen and Leonard Lovette of Chicago; and three sisters, Dorothy Green of Rolling Fork, Stephanie Powell of Copperas Cove, Texas, and LaToya Lewis of Shaw.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla. Burial will follow at Vicks Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Jennye A. Hughes.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. – Jennye A. Hughes, age 63, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Hughes was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Memphis to the late Jesse and Byron Hundley Armstrong. She was also preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Parker Jr.; a brother, Jesse Harper Armstrong; and a sister, Mona Armstrong Guthrie.
Survivors include her son, Darwin Lane Hughes; three daughters, Petesy (Brion) Baker, Kristy Hughes and Jennifer Hughes; five grandchildren, Mitchell, Trey, Ryan, Devin and Blake; a brother, Gail (Teena) Armstrong; a sister, Beverly A. Ervin (John) Harris; the father of Kristy and Jennifer, Wayne F. Hughes; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Jennye will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at Bradley’s Chapel in Oak Ridge.

Mary A. Jones.
HARVEY, Ill. – Mary A. Jones died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Ill. She was 86.
A former resident of Rolling Fork, Mrs. Jones worked for the Spivey family for more than 40 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Perry Jean Jones; a son, Donald G. Fang; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; godchildren and other relatives, including Victoria Johnson, Magnolia Perkins and George Lee Smith.
Services will be at noon Sunday at Guiding Star M.B. Church in Cary with the Rev. Timothy Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Sunday until the hour of service at the church.
