Getting back into the routine of a school day was a little easier for 8-year-old Lee Jones Thursday.

During the summer, he mentioned to owners of a limousine service he’d like to take a ride, and that request was granted.

&#8220He’s normally hard to get up,” said his mother, Karen Jones. &#8220But, we didn’t have any problems this morning.”

Lee and his older sister, Katelyn, were delivered by limo to St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, where he’s in the third grade and she is in sixth.

Carol Frazier and Sally Harris, owners of Vicksburg Limousine Service, said that during the Miss Mississippi pageant, in Vicksburg in July, Lee told them he would like to take the short ride from their hub on Monroe Street to the school off Clay.

&#8220We donated a limo for the (pageant), and he was so excited about the limo. He said he would love to be able to go to school in a limo,” Frazier said. &#8220I said, ‘I can do that. I can take him to school in a limo.’”.

The stretch limo, which would normally cost a minimum of $255 for the ride, pulled into the school’s carpool lane and a small group of students watched in awe. A smile crept across Lee’s face before the driver, James Dulaney, opened the door to the limo, presenting Lee – like a celebrity – to the group of teachers and students.

&#8220What’s happenin’?” Lee said as he quickly walked to the school’s entrance.

Katelyn, who rode in the same limo with Miss Mississippi Taryn Foshee after the pageant this summer, was just as excited to have the royal treatment.

&#8220I told one friend and I know what she’s gonna’ say. She’s gonna’ say ‘No fair,’ because that’s what she’s been saying,” Katelyn said.

Lee said he told as many people as he could.

&#8220They all said, ‘That’s really cool,’” he said.

Classes began at Vicksburg Catholic School on Aug. 9. Area public schools started on Aug. 8.
