Pay raises expected for county|[9/06/06]

Warren County supervisors approved an operating budget Tuesday that awards pay raises in all 14 departments and contains almost as much new spending as last year, but keeps the pledge not to raise property tax rates.

Adopted unanimously, the 2006-07 spending plan will have a general fund of $13,710,410, up from $12,933,592 from 2005-06.

Much of the $796,818 in new spending will be covered by $436,533 in revenue from new developments and from higher valuations assigned to existing real and personal property.

Property tax bills are sent in December with payment due in January. Warren County has followed a practice of revaluing parcels once every your years. The tax rates will go into effect for car tags on Oct. 1.

About 55 percent of the county’s total budget, including expected revenue, of $27,106,217, will come from property taxes, County Administrator John Smith said, adding that next year’s total is likely to surpass $29 million.
